Alaska Supreme Court Upholds Top-Four Initiative

On January 19, the Alaska Supreme Court issued a two-page order saying the top-four initiative does not violate the Alaska Constitution. The order says an explanation will be issued in the future. Here is the order, which came only 24 hours after the oral argument.

  1. Is there any chance for a rehearing or appeal, or can everyone consider the case settled?

  2. It is settled. However, if Lisa Murkowski is injured by this new system, its backers may have second thoughts in the future and may try to repeal it. She must run for re-election this year. The press endlessly tells its readers that the new system helps Murkowski, but I am not so sure.

  3. Mere law inits are semi-worthless vs the gerrymander hacks.
