The WFP speech will be by Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and will be live-streamed on the WFP facebook page. This is the second year in a row the WFP has had a Democratic member of congress deliver the WFP speech.

If the Working Families Party is just an arm of the Democrats, why is it doing this? The move seems somewhat antithetical to the interests of the Democratic Party.
The WFP probably wouldn’t be allowed to have a response read in its name unless the Democratic Party gave it the go-ahead. Neither ruling party sure as heck wouldn’t allow the Green Party to do something like that if we found a member of Congress willing to read such a response. I tend to believe Phil’s interpretation of the overall status of the WFP.

Richard Winger – This isn’t at all opposed to the interest of the Democratic party. It signals to certain people on the left that segments of the Democratic party are aligned with their interests.
This would turn off moderate Democrats who don’t want the Democratic party to move further left, but moderate Democrats won’t be watching a SOTU put out by the WFP, so they will remain in ignorance.
It’s a safe move by the Democrats to appeal to the left without worrying about alienating its more moderate base.
It’s no secret to anyone who pays attention that different groups of democrats see things somewhat differently.
