Congressional Bill for Mandatory Voting

On April 18, Congressman John B. Larson (D-Connecticut) introduced HR 7536. It would require citizens to vote in every federal election, and would impose a $20 fine on those who did not. There are various exemptions in the bill, which can be see here.

Larson has been in the U.S. House starting with the 1998 election.

Congressional Bill for Mandatory Voting — 12 Comments

  1. They can penalize you for not showing up, but they (probably) can’t know if you actually chose candidates. I’ve got no problem with leaving things blank.

  2. Gross! One of the most disgusting things I’ve ever heard. Completely anathema to what this country is about.

  3. I could see a mandatory voter id with a picture to those that wanted to vote being renewed every four years (just like a drivers license). That would prevent fraud.

  4. Voting should be a lot harder. At the very least, all the restrictions that have been done away with from the 15th and 19th amendments on to the present day need to be brought back. We must also round up and deport all those who are only here thanks to the immigration law changes of 1965, including those who were born here as a result. The 23rd, 24th and 26th amendments are also among those that need to be repealed.

  5. What’s next ??? –

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ TRILLION dollar fine for NOT voting for each incumbent tyrant ???

    See Russia / China regimes.

  6. Forcing people to vote, especially in the absence of a “none of the above” option or even opposition party candidates, is totalitarian and anathema to the (yet to be officially repealed) First Amendment to our country’s Constitution. People should stop rubber-stamping the re-election of Democrats and Republicans before more of said Democratic and Republican politicians decide Mr Larsen’s bill is a “good” idea.
