John Thompson Parker, the Peace & Freedom Party candidate for U.S. Senate in California, has recently spent a week in the Russian-occupied part of Ukraine. Although other U.S. politicians and members of Congress have also visited Ukraine during May, Parker is probably the only U.S. candidate who has spent his time in the Russian zone. Many activists in the Peace & Freedom Party are also active in parties that operate within PFP. Parker is with the Socialist Unity Party, which split from the Workers World Party in 2018. Really, he has a right to go there. I haven’t seen the State Dept ban anyone going to the Ukraine. A candidate will have to answer to voters about it. I give him credit for going there and getting that version of the story. Russian isn’t Marxist anymore so no one can criticize for that.

What negotiations with a foreign government? A longshot candidate for congress is not in any position to negotiate, and there is no indication that any negotiation took place. Visiting an areas is not negotiation and it’s not joining a foreign army or conflict.

It makes no sense to negotiate with someone who is not in a position to deliver anything. Also, for violation of any law, the principle of innocent until proven guilty applies. Therefore, unless you have specific evidence of guilt that can be presented in a court of law and proven beyond a reasonable doubt, he has not broken any laws.

In order to get to Rubizhne, John Parker traveled to the Russian Federation and crossed illegally into Ukraine. He came onto Ukrainian territory without the permission of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, which is a crime.
