Democratic Registration in Wyoming Sinks to 15.3%, Lowest in History

On July 6, the Wyoming Secretary of State released new monthly registration data. A story in Cowboy State Daily says the Democratic Party’s share, 15.34%, is the lowest in history, although the data only goes back to 1968.

The story does not break out the minor party registration. Libertarian registration is .93%; Constitution Party is .27%. The Republican share is 71.08%; independents and unqualified parties are 12.39%.

  1. There are probably people who support the Democratic Party in their hearts, who have been registering Republican, so as to vote in the August 16, 2022 primary in favor of Congresswoman Liz Cheney.

  2. About 42 of 50 states are communist/fascist ONE party in control regimes.

  3. You should be able to tell the success of Liz Chaney’s outreach to Democrats to switch parties to vote for her in the primary by looking at what the % of Democrats was in April and May. I suspect Richard is right and there has been some of this a play and what type of impact that may have in the primary – not sure it will tip the balance but it’s Chaney’s only shot to win the primary.

Does Wyoming election law allow unsuccessful primary candidates to run as write-in candidates in the General Election? If so, it would not surprise me if she tried that route to keep “her” seat (You may recall that happened in 2010 in Alaska when Lisa Murkowski lost the primary but went on to win the General Election as a write in candidate which hadn’t been done since Strom Thurmond of South Carolina won election as a write in in 1954).

  4. Wyoming law does not bar “sore losers” from running as write-ins in a general election.

  5. On January 1st the Democrats had 16.3%. They’ve declined by 2,537 since then. Republicans have increased by 4,400. The increase in total registrations since January 1st has been 1,466.

  6. No “sore losers” law might result in a write in, should Cheney lose the primary. However, I’m not sure if that will matter given the registration disparity unless there are a lot of unaffiliated voters.
