Russian Politicians Suggests Alaska Hold a Referendum on Ceasing to be Part of the United States — 48 Comments

  1. The article also states that Pyotr O. Tolstoy (who is the great great grandson of Leo Tolstoy) has authored legislation in the State Duma for a referendum for Alaska to determine if the State should become part of Russian Federation.

  2. The United States and Russia have been in a territorial dispute stating in year 1836.

  3. Why shouldn’t Alaska be totally independent? Why should it join the Russian Federation? Why become part of that kleptocratic autocracy?

One great benefit of Alaskan and Hawaiian independence is that they would be less vulnerable to the sub-optimal economic effects of the Jones Act This restrictive trade law is disadvantageous to all US territory not part of the “lower 48” states, which includes, Alaska, Hawaii, and all remaining US territories.

  4. Walter Ziobro,

Hyder, AK is an exception to the Jones Act if using a Canadian flag ship.

  5. Today we have Governor of Alaska Dunleavy replying to P. Tolstoy “Good Luck” on his legslation to conduct a referendum in Alaska on it become part of the Russian Federation. The question is why Governor Dunleavy is wishing any good luck to the Tolstoy legislation for a referendum place Alaska into Russia?

  6. AZ,

This is coming from Tolstoy. And Dunlevy is staying “good luck”. AiP want Independence not part of the Russian Federation Status

  7. Alaska should absolutely rejoin Russia. Russian territory rightfully extends down the West Coast well into California, including San Francisco. Russia would clean up and restore that beautiful city and save it from its current humiliating degradation into a modern day Sodom. Greater Russia should also include most of Central Europe, at least as far as Finland, Berlin, and Vienna. In the South, Russia is well positioned to take Iran as well as parts of the Arab Middle East, leading a new Orthodox Crusade to retake Jerusalem in the name of Jesus, and ultimately also to control the Egyptian Pyramids. Certainly, Afghanistan, Mongolia and Korea, are among the areas that rightfully belong to Russia, as well as some of the northern portions of China and Japan. It should go without saying that Central Asia and the Caucasus belong to Russia, of course.

  8. Russia = 666 land — full of killer/enslaver devils from hell.

lenin- stalin – putin etc etc

  9. Logan,

You state in part that Alaska should absolutely rejoin Russia. Let’s look on the word rejoin. When the treaty was drafted on 30 March 1867, Russian claim and pretentions only went south to 55 degrees north with the exception of the the remainder of Prince of Wales Island that lied south of 55 degrees north which was ceded to Russia by Britian in 1825.

Therefore that part of Alaska that was added under Secrion 1 of the Harrison Alaska Organic Act of 17 May 1884 could not be rejoined with Russia, because it
was never covered by the treaty of 30 March 1867.

  10. Sorry I made typo. The word should be Section and not “Secrion” (sic.)

  11. Logan – After Ukraine is done humiliating the Russian military and Putin is forcibly removed from office, Russia is going to struggle to hold many of its states. Bashkortostan, Tartarstan, Komi, Khabarovsk, Primorye, Yakutia, Astrakhan… Moscow only holds them through force and fear and now that Moscow is looking weak they will take the opportunity to break away. Even before Ukraine, in 2020-2021, Khabarovsk had massive protests against Moscow which drew tens of thousands of participants and which enjoyed a +30 approval rating in the region.

There is a very slim chance that Alaska becomes independent from the US sometime in the next century. There is zero chance that it subsequently joins Russia.

  12. Jim,

    Wishing

members of the State Duma “Good Luck” on making pretentions to more of Alaska is a very bad idea.

The Soviets invaded Wrangell Island, Alaska on August 19, 1924 and stayed several days and left with 14 Alaskans.

Telling Russian State Duma members “good luck” will only cause then to expand more into Alaska.

  13. Jim is wildly misinformed and makes me think he is actually either Stock or Alden. Russia is absolutely destroying Ukraine. Ukraine has no chance. The supposed military aid is just a huge money laundering scheme. Furthermore, Putin is one of the most popular, if not the most popular world leader among the people over whom a leader leads.

Contrast that with his American counterpart: the world’s least popular world leader among his populace, who stole his country’s presidency in a fraudulent election, who takes showers with his teenage daughter, who publicly molestes little girls, who can’t tell the difference between his wife and his sister, who suffers from advanced dementia, and who falls constantly.

  14. LOL. Russia has been offering to pay prisoners and Syrians to go to Ukraine, was forced to increase the upper age limit to join the military from 40 to 65, is sending half century old T62 tanks to the front lines, and is conscripting Donbas Ukrainians and equipping them with hundred year old rifles and no body armor. The country has zero ability to ramp up its manufacturing of advanced weaponry because of sanctions. When they can’t get computer chips, every Russian tank that is blown up is a tank that cannot be replaced. Half of the ones the Russians had before the war began were just rusted piles of junk. Which is why they are reduced to sending ancient relics. Meanwhile, every day that passes sees Ukraine better equipped with modern Western gear and there is even talk of training Ukrainian pilots on F16s. No worry about that, though. Russia will be forced to withdraw long before those pilots have concluded their training.

Putin is popular in the high population density areas around Moscow, but the extent of his popularity outside of that is extremely uncertain. When the police make random stops to search phones for dissident messages, the elections are rigged, and political opponents are jailed, there aren’t a lot of safe ways to register opposition. Even answering a phone survey is questionable because you don’t really know who is on the other end of the line. Still, Russia lacks China’s surveillance state, so there is some ability to hide in the crowd. 50,000 protesters in Khabarovsk is a good indicator that Putin isn’t universally loved.

  15. We are DEMOCRACY WHY NOt allow Alaskan people decide if dey want leave United State and become one or join Russian Empire?

  16. The US also has rigged elections. That’s why Biden is currently in office. Look at all of the political prisoners that have been jailed because they don’t support him.

  17. Jim,

The State of Alaska has an age limit of 63, if you are correct that Russia has gone to 65, then they have taken an advantage of age here in Alaska for fighting back.

In 2014 to the North of Rodgers Harbor, AK, Putin directed circa August 8th to hoist a Russian Flag on Wrangell Island,
an declare it a Rusdian Navy Base on August 20, 2014 (which was 90 years to the day that the Soviet Military chopped
down the flag pole owned by the Lomen Brothers of Nome, AK that was erected in 1923).

  18. Sorry for typos in the above it was and not an (sic.), plus Russian Navy Base and not “Rusdian” (sic.).

  19. Frank,

Please post details of these rigged elections in and out of both Alaska and California here.

Here in Alaska on August 16, 2022 electors voting for write-in candidates will only be counted if the come within 1/2 of a % of one of the three winners of the primary, viz., Begich, Palin, or Peltola.

That is a clear violation of the 14Th Amendment, Section 2 of the United States Constitution.

  20. OLUMIDE OYEDEJI,

That was done by the treaty of 30 March 1867, viz., giving Russians three long years to return to the Russian Empire from October 18, 1867.

There is not more a Russian Empire!

  21. For California History Buffs, I happen before in 1850, when the Republic of Rough and Ready was formed, namely a vote to leave the United States.

Is this the extent of what P. Tolstoy is proposing with the Russian Federation will pay the State of Alaska to conduct such a vote. From what read it is part of a planned takeover of Alaska.

  22. As best as I can now determine P. TOLSTOY wants the type of Referendum conduct with Russian Military on the ground in Alaska as took place in Crimea in 2014.

  23. Going back to the 17 December 1883 meeting between U. S. Senator Benjamin Harrison and Major Ezra W. Clark, Jr. in room 41 of the US Capitol on the status of Forrester Island of the San Carlos Islands in the North Pacific Ocean located near Alaska. Harrison informed Clark he wanted the dispute with Russia to end over the sovereignty over Forrester Island that began in 1836. Therefore the Alaska Board on 17 May 1884 ended that dispute by adding Forrester Island to the District of Alaska under the authority of Section 1 of the Harrison Alaska Organic Act by resolution. Does P. Tolstoy want the status of Forrester Island included in his suggested referendum?

  24. @MS,

Fast forward to 2022. Have you found out the statutory or regulatory basis for removing Al Gross’s name from the special election runoff ballot?

  25. Jim Riley

No! B. Jackson has not returned by phone calls yet. Jeff in Anchorage was in training yesterday. No one else in either Anchorage or Juneau had a clue.

Speaking of a Gross, I did have several phone calls with Al Gross’s dad in the late 1970’s flowing the 1974 meeting in Anchorage between the Soviet and US Officials related to the 1 -2 February 1973 hearings conducted by Senator Gurney of Florida following the meeting between Gurney, Senator Fong, and Alphonzo Tarabocia in Washington, DC in late 1972.

I raised my concern with Senate Fong in Honolulu in 1970 over Wrangell Island, Alaska of the Arctic Ocean and the GULAG their that held Raoul Wallenberg in 1962.
Wallenberg was flown in and out of Wrangell Island, Alaska in 1962 by a STOL airplane from Cape North, Siberia which landed at Cape Hawaii by the Our River (in Russian “Nasha”). That is the location on 17 August 1866 the Hawaiian ship W. C. Talbot landed at under the command of Capt. EDUARD DALMAN of Honolulu.

  26. Early on – vague claims to parts of North America by Euro regimes.

Much too difficult for statist hacks to define their political/jurisdictional CONTROL areas via ACCURATE maps, latitude / longitude lines ???

    Some problems with irregular lines.

Updated now with satellite pics, etc.

See Mich – Ohio case in SCOTUS – triangle piece of western Lake Erie.

    USA Const III-2, paras 1-2.

  27. Sorry a spelling error it was Dallman and not either “Dallmann” or “Dalman” in 1866.

  28. AZ,

It was not a vague claim in 1799 by Tsar Paul I. He claimed south to 55th degree
North. The problem was to locate where the islands were in the San Carlos Islands. Look at the records of the General Land Office at the US Department of the Interior prior to 1903 for Wolf Rock of the San Carlos Islands.

  29. AZ,
You mention the problem with the border between Michigan and Ohio, Please explain more fully. I recall the Toledo War. These issues now between the US and Russia remind me of that conflict from the 1830’s. Which was the same time period the US and Russia entered into a territorial dispute over Forrester Island of the San Carlos Islands in the North Pacific Ocean, circa 1836.

  30. Mark Seidenberg is becoming as pathetic as Thomas Jones and Robert K Stock.

  31. AZ,

It was on 17 August 1866 that a Hawaiian landing party first landed at Cape Hawaii on what is now called Wrangell Island, AK. The ship was the W. C. Talbot out of the Port of Honolulu. However, there at the time was no concept of the extent of the land.

Then on 14 August 1867, another ship with an Hawaiian Captain named Thomas W. Long sailed by this Land mass for two days and then headed south on 16 August 1867 at the point of the same Cape Hawaii. On 29 July 1901 the United States Board on Geographic Names named the tallest mountain on Wrangell Island as “Long Peak” in his honor.

Thomas W. Long on 9 November 1867 publish a detailed article about his discovery in the Pacific Commercial Advertiser and name the massive land he discovered as “Wrangell Land”.

Prior to 1 February 1868, Captain Charles Francis Hall referred to the same land as “Wrangell’s Land”. On 6 February 1868, Secretary of State William H. Seward wrote to POTUS Andrew Johnson and informed him that discovery by Long with the naming used by Hall as “Wrangell’s Land”. Then on 17 February 1868, POTUS
Johnson issued a memorandum to Seward he wanted “Wrangell’s Land” as a possession of the USA.

In 1880, Major Ezra W. Clark, Jr (who was both the Chief of the United States Revenue Marine and the attorney of the Alaska Board of the United States Department of the Treasury) ordered Captain Calvin L. Hooper, USRM to go to
Wrangell’s Land and take formal possession in the name of these United States.

Therefore, on 12 August 1881 a landing party headed by 3rd Lt. William Edward Reynolds, USRM, that included John Muir
landed at the mouth of the Clark River with a new name for this land as “New Columbia Land” and took formal possession in the name of G-D, POTUS, and the Secretary of the United States Department of the Treasury.

On 17 December 1883 in Room number 41 at the US Capitol Building a meeting took place between Senator Benjamin Harrison and Ezra W. Clark, Jr. There Harrison directed Clark to draft a bill to establish and organic act for Alaaka that could add territory to Alaska and he wanted six islands added to Alaska, viz.,
Bennett, Forrester, Henrietta, Herald, Jeannette, and Wrangell.

The bill was introduced on 18 December 1883, and became law on 17 May 1884 on the signature of POTUS Arthur. Clark was presented with the Waterman Fountain Pen that Chester Arthur signed the Harrison Alaska Organic Act into law with. He then walked to the Treasury Deparment building and conducted a meeting of the Alaska Board and by a resolution these six islands were added to the District of Alaska under the authority of Section 1 of the Harrison Alaska Organic Act.

On 1 April 1924, the Lomen Brothers of Nome, Alaska went on title to the whole of this Wrangell Island, Alaska.

  33. AZ,

There is an article in the Zero Hedge of July 7, 2022 that gave more details on Tolstoy’s proposed bill to conduct a referendum in Alaska to determine if Alaska will join the Russian Federation.
The article is by Tyles Durden and entitled: Thursday, July 7, 2022.

The article stated that P. Tolstoy legislation would have a referendum akin to the one conducted in the Creamia (sic.) in 2014.

It would be helpful to no the deals of thst 2014 refendum?

  34. Canada/NATO military moving around northern Canada / Greenland looking for Russia invaders

    – 2 leg versions, real bears OK ???

  35. AZ,

What is Greenland “looking for Russian Invader” statement about? REASON for question it was on 13 September 1871 thst a landing party headed by Captain Charles Francis Hall of the USS POLARIA took formal possession of Greenland at Thank God Harbor in the name of G-D, POTUS, and the SECNAV.

  36. NOT having some govt hack show up in zero human areas = de facto govt abandoned area
