On July 18, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the North Carolina Democratic Party asked to intervene in the Green Party North Carolina ballot access case. Five attorneys from the Marc Elias law firm submitted the brief. It says that the county election boards did not do a careful job of checking the Green Party’s petition, and that the petition perhaps doesn’t have enough valid signatures. It also says that if the Green Party gets on the ballot, the Democratic Party will be injured because it will need to expend more resources to win the U.S. Senate election (see pages 19-21).

The attorney for the Green Party proposed that the state file its brief within a week, but the attorney for the state says the state needs more time than that. The judge directed the two sides to negotiate a briefing schedule by July 19. If they cannot agree on the schedule, the judge will set a schedule.

The unDemocratic Party isn’t even bothering to hide the sense of entitlement and privilege they feel towards their place in the corrupt two-party system they and the Republicans built. Folks who believe in free and fair elections need to start protesting them in addition to the GOP, and trying to find ways to get major international law and electoral monitoring organizations involved; the GOP won’t care, but the Dem Establishment likes to keep up international appearances…

A competent petition circulator knows not to engage in ideology discussions with potential signers. You don’t want to get in a 15-minute discussion / argument by someone trying to convince you that taxation is theft if they believe the purpose of the state is to control the means of production. Since you are likely outside, you will be using loud outdoor voices. Onlookers will avoid the “discussion”, and random strangers will wander up and mutter something about pendin Condorcet.
