The North Carolina State Board of Elections posts voter registration data every week, on Saturday. Between July 2 and July 23, the Democratic Party has declined by 2,838. The Republican Party has declined by 478. The Libertarian Party has increased by 78, and independents have increased by 4,198.
The publicity about the Democratic Party’s attempt to remove the Green Party began on June 30, when the three Democratic members of the State Board of Elections refused to certify the party’s petition, even though the county election boards had determined it had enough valid signatures.
The totals on July 23 are: Democratic 2,491,653; Republican 2,209,872; Libertarian 49,333; independent 2,573,470.
On July 2 they were: Democratic 2,494,491; Republican 2,210,350; Libertarian 49,255; independent 2,569,272.

Demo – Again, in the digital age, there is no need to rely on party registration lists. They will build a much more complete and accurate profile of you by data mining your social media, reading your email, looking at which candidates to whom you have donated, seeing which books you have taken out of the library or downloaded, checking who you’ve called, finding out what meds you have taken, and combing through your credit card history. You are not the slightest bit safe by failing to register with a party. Party registration lists haven’t been relevant for purge lists in 20 years.
And you, in particular, would have a lot to worry about, if that future comes to pass. Your real name has been posted here regularly with warnings about commies, fascists, and purge lists. You are a known threat to them. You are definitely on their list. They will be coming for you first.

The change is due to differential updates among the counties. Most counties had increases in total registration, but 18 counties had decreases, and in particular the three largest, Wake (Raleigh), Mecklenburg (Charlotte), and Guilford (Greensboro). These three counties are Democratic dominated. Even if the percentage change within the county is the same, more D’s than R’s will be dropped.
It is at least conceivable that cities have more stale registrations. There is more population churn with people leaving for all kinds of reasons, loss of job, move to Atlanta, divorce, marriage. People in rural areas may do so for lifestyle reasons. They are content even though they are paid less.
Because of this population churn, registration lags the actual population. Or perhaps the big counties have larger staffs to track down changes. Purging may have paused around the May primary and has now restarted.
