Pennsylvania is holding a special election to fill the vacant 27th State Senate seat on January 31. Libertarian nominee Thomas Anderson was omitted from that ballot because his Statement of Economic Interests was late. He had thought the Statement of Economic Interests he had filed last year in another legislative election would suffice. When he learned otherwise, he filed it, but it was fifteen minutes too late. Always, always turn in every single paperwork required after inquiring with the local/state election authorities as to what precisely is required (get it in writing for the records in case of later lawsuit), and aim for at least double the amount of required signatures if petitioning onto the ballot. The “Democratic” and “Republican” Parties look for any loophole or excuse to keep opposition parties off the ballot, while often excusing away any paperwork deficiencies their candidates might have.
In general, with hard deadlines, it may help to submit early and have your application reviewed for “completeness”, just in case. Not sure if that was feasible here.
Also, can we point out that the deadline was December 12 yet he says he didn’t find out he wasn’t on the ballot until January 13, over four weeks later? There’s something wrong with that picture, even considering the holidays…

This exactly how ballot access censorship is designed to work. Voters must be denied the opportunity to consider all alternatives to candidates selected by the duopoly parties.
If the ballot was an open write-in ballot verifiable by the voter, then their would be NO prior censorship of voter choices.
In the rare event a non-person wins and election the legislature can simply declare the office vacant and directs a new election held.
If a real person fails to meet constitutional qualifications to hold office, then the legislature simply refuses to seat them, declares the office vacant and directs a new election held.
This was the remedy before the state monopolization of the ballot and the regime of voter censorship as ballot access law; and, it remains the remedy available today for the election of unqualified or ineligible persons.

There would be no problem if there was no ballot. Qualified voters (far fewer in number than our free for all elections today) should gather on election night and stand in a corner of the room for their party. As for the actual officeholders, the winning party can select those through an internal process after the election and substitute them out as it sees fit. If they wish to do so, parties can preselect candidates through their internal process before the election, but there should be no such requirement, and whether (much less how) a party does so should be entirely up to each party. The individual officeholders should never be the focus of anything and should always be up for removal and substitution by their party at any time for any reason or for no reason at all.
IMO, a candidate shouldn’t have to file a statement of financial interest unless they get elected. Why should someone who might not win have to reveal their financial status?
It just discourages challengers from opposing incumbents.
What an officeholder is required to reveal should be between them and the winning Party. If their level of disclosure, the truthfulness thereof, any details, their voting record, public behavior, or anything else fails to satisfy or disappoints their Party, they can always be substituted at any time with or without notice by the Party. The individual identity of the officeholders should be completely irrelevant. Indeed, they may be substituted out depending on which Party members the winning Party may wish to send in that particular week, day or even portion of the day to any particular office. The only function of the Qualified Voters should be to pick the winning Party for the next Calendar Year. At that point, everything should be up to that Party for the following year. If the voters are not satisfied with the performance of that party, they should keep that in mind and stand in a different Party’s corner the following Year.

I’ve regretfully sometimes sloppily devolved to the modern habit of incorrectly using the plural to fudge the idiotic notion that women should be allowed to vote or hold office or even more recently and absurdly that adult humans can fall into categories other than Men and women.
