Democratic National Committee Sets New Presidential Primary Calendar, but Enforcement Will be Difficult

on Saturday, February 4, the Democratic National Committee determined that in 2024, the early Democratic presidential primaries and caucuses should proceed on this calendar: South Carolina on February 3, New Hampshire and Nevada on February 6, Georgia on February 13, Michigan on February 27, and all others in the period March through early June.

However, the Republican National Committee has no plans to change its early calendar, which still consists of Iowa first, then New Hampshire, then South Carolina, then Nevada, all in February; other states March through June.

If the New Hampshire legislature ignores the Democratic plan, the Democratic Party may deprive New Hampshire Democrats of part or all of their national convention delegation, and also provide that New Hampshire Democratic delegates be chosen in caucuses, or in a party-administered primary. The Democratic Party will probably also not be able to persuade the Georgia legislature to make the needed date change. But the Michigan primary has already been moved to the February 27 date, and Nevada Democrats are free to hold their caucuses regardless of state election laws.

In 2020, the only February presidential primaries were in New Hampshire (February 11) and South Carolina (February 29).

  1. More and more, each major party wants its own timetable for Presidential primaries. If a state cannot support multiple primaries, the entire nomination procedure may have to be privatized.

This could result in a variety of voting methods being developed besides primaries and caucuses, such as mail-in, on-line, or block-chain voting.

  3. The POTUS primary date is set by the SOS in New Hampshire. In theory the legislature could vote to suspend the rules to take up legislation this year, but with a GOP majority, that seems unlikely.

  4. Per Walter, given that states subsidize major party primaries but minor parties get no help on conventions, privatize away.

  5. Fuck you up your ass for using my name you White Supremacist Christian Taliban Nazi piece of shit.

  6. Worthless commies Perry and Stock (deciding to post under his real name again) have entered.

  7. There should be no government run primaries. Voters should pick the winning party by publicly standing in that party’s corner of a caucus venue on election night. The winning party should then pick its officeholders (and substitute or replace them as often as they want until the next annual election). It can do so any way it wants, including a party run and financed primary if it so wishes, although a closed door meeting of the party’s executive committee in a smoke filled room, or an email vote of that party exec comm, would be much more logical. A party can even elect a party chairman and give him the sole authority to appoint and substitute its officeholders if that party wins the general election.

It seems quite absurd for a party to pick officeholders if it hasn’t won the election, but if some parties want to choose their would be officeholders before the election as a way to convince voters to stand in their corner, they should have a right to do that, as long as the government has no role at all in running or financing this process. But the election should be over ideas as expressed in a party platform, and to the extent that it is about choosing individuals it should be about choosing individuals the voter knows personally from among their neighbors – that is, who is the party’s precinct chair and who stands with them on election night. And yes I do mean stands, as in physically stands up and remains standing. If you can’t do that, you should have no right to vote. Far, far too many people are allowed to vote currently. It should be a much more exclusive and elite group of people who are allowed to vote.

  8. I have been a dirty rotten scoundrel and I apologize for everything I’ve done. I disavow Satanism, Communism, and all the other -isms I allowed to brainwash me. I apologize for disrespecting President Trump, the greatest president the US has ever had. I apologize for trolling this site under multiple names. I apologize for being rude to customers while working as the night manager at the El Reno Motel 6. I admit I vomited in the elevator, shat in the parking lot, and blamed someone else. I admit I am the reason the whole building smells like curry. I am so sorry to everyone I’ve wronged. Please forgive me.

  9. That’s big of you, Bubba, but it is really Jesus Christ that you need to get on your knees and beg for forgiveness. Satan is still waiting on you until you do that, regardless of whether you disavow him or not. Now go and apologize to Jesus. After that, if your father is still alive you should go apologize to him. If not, you should go to his grave and apologize for dishonoring his legacy by turning your back on God.
