  1. I will always vote for a third part candidate over the two tyranny party candidates any day.

  2. Bdlu

Then you would not vote for a No Labels candidate for at least two reasons:

    1) They claim to be bipartisan, meaning a unity effort between moderate Democrats and moderate Republicans, rather than a third party.

    2) There’s not going to be any no labels candidate, regardless of how many states they qualify for the ballot in.

  3. Have to think about that one Bdlu. You raise a good point. Its kinda funny now that I think about it. A Democratic Party and a Republican Party, and a combo Demo-GOP Party. Three tyranny parties! lol It really doesn’t give much of a choice in giving different viewpoints and choices to the voter.

  4. I don’t get the impression from this article that these folks have thought through exactly how their project is going to work.

Lots of opportunity here for unintended consequences and wasted effort.

  5. If these folks have someone in mind that they want to run, they might just be better off running that person, or persons, and get their campaigns going, rather than trying to manage this scheme.

  6. They don’t have anyone in mind. They have a type of candidate in mind – well known former Governor or Senator, or perhaps billionaire/celebrity, large corporation CEO, or victorious war general who is a moderate Democrat or Republican or an independent with that same kind of ideology.

They’re not going to get a candidate like that for the same reason that they didn’t in 2012. They won’t run a less well known, less well financed candidate or someone who they don’t consider a moderate for the same reasons as they didn’t in 2012. The best known example of the kind of candidate they seek is Bloomberg. He put a lot of money into research and concluded that if he ran as an independent or third party candidate it would end up just helping elect Trump which was the opposite of what he wanted. He didn’t get much traction running as a Democrat either despite spending boatloads of cash. The demand for what these people are selling isn’t as high as they want you to believe, and the type of candidate they want to attract is smart enough to realize this and ultimately decides against trying.

  7. @ George

IMO, the best shot these sort of folks have is to run someone in the Democratic primaries against Biden.

  8. They like Biden. They’re more worried either that Biden will decide not to run, will be defeated by a Sanders, AOC or someone with similar ideology in the primary, or will look unlikely to win a general election.

  9. There’s not much of a difference between Biden and Sanders. Both are ancient corrupt commies. AOC is a young corrupt commie.

  10. If i understand George, this whole No Labels thing is just insurance against the Democrats running someone other than Biden.

I still think they are better just running someone new against Biden, instead of hoping that the Democrats won’t replace tired, old Joe with one of their lack luster second benchers.

  11. Anyway, i have no intention of voting either for Trump or Biden. I will most likely vote for a third party candidate, as I have always done.

Of course, it’s easy for me to do that because my home state, Massachusetts, hasn’t voted for a Republican since Reagan, so my vote doesn’t much matter, anyway.

Now, if we had proportional, ranked choice voting for Presidential Electors in Massachusetts, i might think a little bit more about the vote I cast.

  12. They want to help ensure that the president next term is someone that they consider to be a moderate. That would encompass a Biden, Clinton or anyone from the moderate wing of the Democrats, or a Republican such as Haley, Sununu, maybe Pompeo, and the call may not yet be in on DeSantis. They don’t like Trump, and they don’t like the Sanders/AOC wing of the Democrats. They are especially concerned that those would be the only major party choices in the election or that Biden will be too weak for whatever reason – economy, age, strong primary challenge, unpopular war, scandal, some combination – to beat Trump.

It’s not likely that they would challenge Biden directly in the primaries. Presidents who face a primary challenge generally survive it, but are weakened for the general election.

  13. The thought of the Democrats nominating Biden again in 2024 is just totally depressing.

Maybe he’s a moderate, but he’s not terribly effective or inspiring.
