Cornel West Hints He Might Seek Green Party Presidential Nomination

Amy Goodman interviewed Cornel West on June 7. She asked him why he is seeking the nomination of the Peoples Party, when the Green Party has far superior ballot access. West responded by mentioning his love for the Green Party, and then he added, “It would be nice if we had even a coming together.” See here. That quote is toward the end of the interview.

  1. Good. He’s going to need their ballot access if he’s going to run a truly national campaign. It makes no sense to waste valuable time and resources on ballot access in 49 states and DC (People’s party only has ballot access in Florida) when he can also seek the GP nomination (as well as other small leftist third party nomination’s) and gain ballot access that way. The GP for instance, last I looked at least, has ballot access in 16 states and Washington DC.

  2. Plus the Green Party has experience in petitioning onto dozens more state ballots; Hawkins was on over 30 state ballots in 2020, and Jill Stein nearly all 50 plus DC in 2016.

  3. The Green Party has ballot access in 17 states and ones with significant electoral votes ie more populous states. Some states are nearimpossible to get on the ballot but they have like 3 electoral votes.

  4. Although the People’s Party is a qualified party in Florida, a 2011 law says even qualified parties aren’t on the ballot for president unless they are recognized by the FEC as a national committee, or unless they submit a petition of about 140,000 signatures. So for president, the People’s Party is not on the ballot in any state right now. The Florida law is discriminatory against new parties because the FEC won’t give national committee status to a new party.

  5. “People’s Party” is just Nick Brana’s facade for earning money. Seven years of existence, ZERO candidates on a ballot at any level, of any precinct. The only time they came close, was suing the State of Florida after the deadline for candidates to register in a county commissioner’s race. There’s three recognized members of the PP in FL, and two of them couldn’t even vote for the third since they don’t live in the district. It’s a joke.

I’m sure Dr. West has a valid path to the presidency with the Brana’s ineptitude at the helm.

  6. I used to try to support the Greens. I went to some meetings. I collected signatures. I volunteered to run for office and got a handful of votes. But I found the experience to be depressing. I will never support this group again.

  7. To Jennifer Sullivan, both Alabama Governor George Wallace and Congressman John Anderson said if they had to do their third party campaigns over again they would have skipped the small out of the way states.

  8. Dr. West has been close to the People’s Party since the 2017 Convergence Conference, and was a key note speaker at the 2020 People’s Party National Convention. He suppots the values and platform of the PP and the PP values him.

  9. Would be fun to see Cornel West pursue a fusion candidacy with both the Green Party and the People’s Party, and challenge the fusion bans of several states along the way.

Fusion bans may be constitutional for state candidates, but fusion bans have not been court-tested for federal candidates.

  10. He has no viable path anywhere near the presidency. But if he splits the leftist commie fascist vote and helps elect Trump again, however inadvertently, more power to him.
