Happy Birthday, Richard Winger!

Eighty years ago today, Richard Winger was born. He is the foremost expert on ballot access in the United States today–and probably ever. He is a national treasure. A person who is irreplaceable by any measure. Please join me in wishing him many more birthdays to come.

  1. Happy Birthday sir, I found this site years ago and you are the reason I am going to school for political science. I hope you are an inspiration for years to come.

  2. On behalf of all the surviving members of the Archmere Academy class of 1961 – happy birthday and Go Auks!

  3. Happy Birthday, Richard!! Thanks for everything you’ve done and continue to do!

  4. Happy Birthday Richard. Thank you for everything you have done to make ballot access easier for candidates and parties. May future generations of Americans appreciate all you done and show tribute.

  5. Best wishes for a Happy Birthday and a great new year! Thank you for all of your efforts to protect and improve ballot access. You are much appreciated.

  6. Happy Birthday! This is one of the best news sites out there, well, for people who care about democracy (such as it is).

  7. You are a living national treasure. No one has done more to promote ballot access in this country. Thank you and happy birthday.

  8. Happy Birthday, Richard! I have been reading BAN since 2009 and it has always been the best resource online for its topics. Thank you for all of the effort you put into this publication and into the fight for democracy more broadly.

  9. Ken: The above comment is from me. It is my first post since Mr. Winger announced that Mr. Redpath was taking over BAN. An imposter has been using my name for several months. Any comment supposedly from me that has a picture is definitely an imposter.

  10. Richard Winger went to high school with Joe Biden in the same class?

  11. Happy Birthday, Mr. Winger! Thank you for your efforts in Ballot Access.

  12. FEMA, I doubt it. Wiki says Mr. Winger is a lifelong Californian, while Archmere is in the northernmost part of Delaware. Archmere is also a Catholic academy, and I’ve read that Mr. Winger is of Jewish origin. Per wiki, Winger graduated college in 1966, so he may have graduated high school in 1961 like the Big Guy, or maybe 1962. It’s highly unlikely they were classmates though. Given the distance from California to Delaware it’s unlikely they played in the same sports leagues.

Regardless, I’ll join your country’s puppet in chief, or most likely facsimile thereof, in wishing the proprietor emeritus a happy birth anniversary, with my best wishes for many more to come.

  13. Happy Birthday Richard.
Bill Redpath is spot on – Richard is an invaluable asset for our grand experiment in self-governance.

  14. Bill Redpath, arguably one of the Libertarian Party’s most dedicated activists, was absolutely on target in describing Richard Winger as a”national treasure.”

I’ve studied and written extensively about this subject — independent and third-party politics in U.S. history — for most of my life and can say unequivocally that nobody has ever done more for the cause of open politics in this country than our valued friend, Richard Winger.

Long live our octogenarian hero! Belated Happy Birthday, Richard. We love you.
