Newsweek Covers Libertarian Party Presidential Candidate Selection Process — 18 Comments

  1. Surprised to see that most of the quotes that were not from former or current candidates were from Maine Libertarians.

Saddened to see why that’s the case later in the article:

“Newsweek approached seven other state parties where Libertarians have previously performed well with interview requests, but did not receive a response.”

It looks like some other state parties need to learn more about fielding media requests.

Good on Harrison Kemp and Tyler Rowe for responding.

  2. “Joshua Smith, a veteran and self-described “blue-collar worker.”
This is the same guy who set up a GoFundMe to pay for a trip to disney world … while being unemployed

    “blue-collar worker” my ass

  3. Glad to see this coverage of the Libertarian Party and the positive response from the Maine Libertarians. I hope we will have strong candidates for President and Vice President in 2024.

  4. Yeah, great story, thanks! Me, I’m pretty likely to be voting for Justin Amash whether or not he runs.

I sure hope the LP does more to further electoral reforms like Ranked Choice Voting, Approval, and STAR. I’m sure a *lot* more voters would vote LP under any of those, knowing that they can still safely voice their preference amongst the two major candidates. It was so great to see the LP finally add support for alternative electoral systems to their platform last year (section 3.6).

  5. Josh is a janitor last I heard. Is that not a blue collar worker? And if supporters of his political work want to chip in and reward a hard working family man with a trip to Disney world, why would any real libertarian object to the voluntary exchange ?

  6. I wonder why no group has ever tried moving to an uninhabited area, registering with the same party, forming a recognized municipality, and voting themselves into office.

  7. Under plurality, the LP candidate might steal votes from the Republican candidate, handing victory to the Democrat. Under RCV, Libertarian voters can rank the LP candidate first, the Republican second, and the Democrat last.

  8. She’s a commie in libertarian clothes, as evidenced by her support for Marxist burn loot murder / blm.
