John Anthony Castro Has Filed Lawsuits in 17 States to Keep Former President Donald Trump Off the Ballot

John Anthony Castro, a Texan and a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, has filed lawsuits in 17 states seeking to keep former President Donald Trump off presidential primary ballots.  All are in federal court except the New Hampshire case.

In order of the lawsuits filing date, they are in these states:  (1) Florida; (2) New Hampshire; (3) Arizona; (4) Maine; (5) Oklahoma; (6) Pennsylvania; (7) Idaho; (8) Kansas; (9) Nevada; (10) South Carolina; (11) West Virginia; (12) North Carolina; (13) New Mexico; (14) Montana; (15) Massachusetts; (16) Utah; (17) Connecticut.

His Florida lawsuit has already lost on standing grounds.  Judge Aileen Cannon wrote in a single sentence that he lacks standing, but she didn’t say why.

Other plaintiffs have filed similar lawsuits in California, Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, and Virginia.  The Florida one has already lost because the plaintiffs are voters and they were ruled to lack standing.

  3. I don’t know about other lawsuits, but I took a quick trip through the Arizona district court’s public case management system and found this gem that I’m not seeing reported …

    Mr. Castro apparently (and audaciously!) just tried to get the court to order Ginny Thomas to testify at the hearing for his motion for a TRO! (I can just imagine a lowly district court judge ordering the wife of Clarence Thomas to appear for interrogation by a write-in candidate!)

    Within hours after the motion was filed the magistrate denied it in 26 words:

    “Mr. Castro has not shown that such testimony is material to the merits of his preliminary injunction motion. Accordingly, Mr. Castro’s motion to compel is denied.”

    The original motion is Document 15 in case 2:23cv01865 if anyone wants to take a look — reading it, this leaves me of the opinion this must all be some type of viral marketing stunt? Maybe I’m wrong.

    I used to to go to a grocery store where a checker was Fidel Castro. He didn’t have a beard or dress in fatigues, but that might just have been because of the store dress code.
