This far in advance of any election minor parties always look much stronger than the actual results. As Election Day draws near the “wasted vote” syndrome always kicks in and voters cast their ballot for the lesser of two evils. If we really are misfortunate enough to have a rerun of the 2020 presidential election we will undoubtedly set a new low for the lesser of two evils.

I suspect that the third party vote may hold up in 2024 given that both Trump and Biden are known, former Presidents, and that undecided and third party votes would be more likely to shift to a new candidate of a major party. If there are no new candidates of either major party, third party votes may solidify as protest votes.
In any event, if its Trump v Biden again, the result will be similar to 2020: most of the states will vote as they voted in 2020, with the election being decided by a small margin of undecided voters in a handful of swing states. There are not many voters who have changed their minds either way since 2020.
