When interviewed, West said the Green Party required him to spend a lot of time doing events for the party in order to get their nomination, and he felt too constrained. He seems more interested in “movement-building” and talking directly to the people. Stein says she is happy to do party-oriented work (except her 2016 recount). As for Hawkins, I would not say his campaign was very successful in 2020, and I believe the Green Party lost ballot access in several states.
I’m not a Green but I have to give Dr. Stein credit for stepping up when she clearly did not wish to take on the ordeal of another national campaign. She is very dedicated to her beliefs and that is an admirable quality in anyone. Good for her!
