Minnesota Legal Marijuana Now Party Will Hold State’s First Presidential Primary for a Third Party in Over 100 Years

The Legal Marijuana Now Party is the only ballot-qualified party in Minnesota, other than the two major parties.  It will hold a presidential primary on March 5, 2024, the first time since 1916 that Minnesota has held a presidential primary for a party other than the two major parties.

The candidates are:  Edward Forchion, Krystal Gabel, Rudy Reyes, Dennis Schuller, and Vermin Supreme.

Although there have been qualified minor parties in Minnesota during the last few decades, Minnesota didn’t hold presidential primaries in the years when those minor parties were on the ballot, such as the Reform Party, the Independence Party (which were the same party, with various name changes) and the Green Party.

Minnesota did hold presidential primaries in 2020, but the Legal Marijuana Now Party didn’t choose to have a presidential primary.  Thanks to Dan Vacek for this news.

  1. They probably have a lot of people who are bored, depressed and shutins or close to in the winters. I would guess alcoholism and other drug abuse to be prevalent in those circumstances .

  2. Along with the two major parties, the Prohibition Party held a presidential primary in Minnesota in March of 1916 between former Massachusetts Gov. Eugene Foss and William Sulzer, the ex-anti-Tammany governor of New York. The names of both candidates appeared on the state’s official presidential primary ballot along with a slate of delegates pledged to each candidate.

  3. Some of the dopeheads i know say illegal marijuana is actually better..for one thing no taxes on it, plus a lot of dope connoisseurs say the legal stuff is just lower quality. I say no to dope and keep an icon of Nancy Reagan next to Jesus on my wall.

  4. You’re welcome, Richard. Keep up the good work for the cause of open and fair politics in this country. You’re a national treasure and deeply appreciated and, to be honest, adored by those of us who’ve spent a good deal of our lives trying to disrupt the utterly corrupt, Wall Street-backed duopoly.

  5. Marijuana is the devil’s lettuce. We must get rid of this satanic scourge on the nation’s soul.

  6. It seems to me to be rather poetic that the 1st third party presidential nomination primary in Minnesota history was held in 1916 by the PROHIBITION PARTY. And the 1st third party presidential primary in more than one hundred years will be held in 2024, in Minnesota, by the LEGAL MARIJUANA NOW PARTY.

  7. Prohibition was good. Legal marijuana would be terrible.
