Oregon Supreme Court Interprets Constitution to Bar Some Republican Incumbent Legislators from Running for Re-Election This Year

On February 1, the Oregon Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the new state constitutional provision relating to legislators who have too many absences applies to the 2024 election. The Republican incumbents who were told they can’t run for re-election this year had sued the Secretary of State, arguing that the measure, if read carefully, doesn’t affect the 2024 election. But the Court ruled it does affect the 2024 election. Knopp v Griffin-Valade, S070456.

Here is the decision. Thanks to Thomas Jones for the link.

  1. Oh, per a trending theme here? This is very democratic, as the law was passed by citizen initiative.

  2. NOOOOO QUORUM STUFF –

MAJORITY TO ENACT BILLS INTO LAWS

NO SHOW UP FOR WORK = NO PAY/BENES

  3. OMG. A democracy that holds its elected leaders responsible for something instead of blaming voters for everything.

  4. Oregon should be split into two new states. The Cascade Range divides the state into two distinct culture zones. Perhaps even eastern Washington State could be part of a new East Oregon state.

It could be done as a trade-off to make Puerto Rico a state, as well.

  5. HOW MANY ONE USA REP GERRYMANDER STATES = 3 ECV

    435 ??? >>> 3 X 435 = 1305 EC VOTES

    >>> 870 USA SENATORS — OF WHICH ABOUT 700 LOCAL BLOWHARDS

WHAT WAS LARGEST BRIT HOUSE OF COMMONS ???

COULD LAST ROW MEMBERS SEE THE SPEAKER — X YARDS AWAY — ESP ON BRIT FOGGY DAYS ???

  6. Unjust you: it was past by the commie fash majority living around the Portland Salem Eugene I 5 corridor and vicinity and is being applied to representatives of folks living on the other side of the mountains with very different values and views.

The folks who elected the district representatives are the ones to judge if they are being well represented or not. If they had there druthers, they’d be part of Idaho, not Oregon. Unfortunately, the I5 totalitarian Borg won’t let them have that option. Now they don’t want them to have the right to have full choice over who represents them in the enemy capital.

The commie fascist tyrants of Eugene Portland area want taxation without representation, or without full choice there of. Once upon a time, we fought wars of independence about that sort of outrageous insanity. You reckon folks forced against there will to be colonised by sinister leftard monsters across the mountains stand half the chance that colonists a quarter millennium earlier stood against similar elitist oppressors across an ocean ???

Tl: Dr we have district representatives for very very good reason. Where in a state people live makes a very big difference.
