RFK, Jr. Announces That He Will Speak at the Libertarian National Convention and Challenges Donald Trump to a Debate There — 32 Comments

  1. Trump will once again be a Coward and avoid debates. Smart by Bobby to challenge Trump.

    #uniparty
    #Kennedy2024

  2. First, Bill, it may not happen, as far as either one actually speaking there. https://independentpoliticalreport.com/2024/05/libertarian-national-committee-treasurer-introduces-motion-to-rescind-convention-speaking-slots-for-non-libertarian-presidential-candidates/

Second, McAwful is clearly realizing she’s losing control of the wheel of the clown car by the day. If the challenge to either one speaking there is rejected, she’ll do everything to prevent a debate, because, contra what she told the NYT, yeah, the convention could indeed be “stampeded.”

  3. VON MISES FACTION HACKS IN THE ALLEGED 2024 NATL LP NOW TOOLS OF OTHER PARTY MONARCHS/OLIGARCHS ???

NEED BLOOD OATHS / DOI TYPE LANGUAGE FOR *REAL* LP FOLKS ???

  4. Interesting that McArdle previously said she invited him but it’s been dead silent with no acknowledgment from her or the LNC for what’s now into the next day. And it’s not like we don’t know she compulsively checks twitter every two minutes, she’s been there raging at Reason for not putting on their MAGA hats and cheering for her.

Any takers on if Madam Chair heard from her buddy on the Trump campaign furious about this and threatening to pull out? Because what a way for it to backfire on the anti-spoiler move they intended this to be. If they both show up, RFK gets way more out of the coverage of them both being there than any benefit for Trump.

  5. While I don’t know a lot about Angela McArdle, she seems to actually be a real libertarian. Little wonder therefore that the SPLC went after her: https://www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/2023/08/31/libertarian-leak-extremist-ties-anti-lgbtq-remarks-gop-collaboration

She sounds quite sensible; incredibly sensible even for anyone in the LNC. Which then begs the question of how she ever got to chair the LNC, when outside of the Mises Caucus the entire “Libertarian” Party are just a bunch of libertines and neo-liberals (i.e. anti-libertarianism and anti-classical liberalism)…

  6. @Johnny Zohar
While I had my doubt whether Trump would accept RFK’s vaccine debate challenge ( https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/trump-calls-rfk-jr-s-stance-on-vaccines-fake-kennedy-responds-with-debate-challenge/ ), he already publicly accepted the invitation to speak at the Libertarian National Convention. So unless the LNC refuses to allow a debate, it will look really bad for Trump if he refuses one. And if they (the LNC) do, it will look really bad for them instead.

  7. With a Kennedy-Trump debate, this could be the most interesting Libertarian convention ever.

  8. Kennedy wants one. I’m sure LNC would love one. Trump agreed to an appearance. It doesn’t mean their schedules coincide.
He will probably debate Kennedy, when it has had a chance to be properly promoted and as a way to embarrass Biden, most likely after their respective nominations are officially made and accepted at the major party conventions. Very few people will know or care if Trump isn’t ready for a debate on short notice at a convention of a minor party which was unbelievably lucky to get him to attend at all.

  9. HOW MANY TYRANT TRUMP BRIBES/THREATS AT THE LP CONVENTION ???

BACK AWHILE A D/R HACK CAME TO A LP MEETING AND MADE ALL SORTS OF THREATS FOR THE LP N-O-T TO NOMINATE CANDIDATES IN SOME MARGINAL GERRYMANDER DISTS — LIKE HITLER THREATS IN TAKEOVERS OF AUSTRIA AND LATER CZECH LAND.

YOURS TRULY MOVED THAT THE HACK BE REMOVED/EXPELLED.

THE D/R HACK LEFT THE MEETING.

LP MADE NOMINATIONS IN ALL MARGINAL DISTS.

  10. Nuna, she got elected because the Mises Caucus totally dominated their last convention with a supermajority of all delegates.

  11. “BACK AWHILE A D/R HACK CAME TO A LP MEETING AND MADE ALL SORTS OF THREATS FOR THE LP N-O-T TO NOMINATE CANDIDATES IN SOME MARGINAL GERRYMANDER DISTS”

There would be no need of this, if run-off, or alternative voting were available.

  12. There’s multiple runoff rounds in libertarian nominations, as I understand it.

  13. This might be explained by the worm that got inside Kennedy’s brain, ate part of it, and died there. I’m not making this up. Go to your favorite news aggregator and take a look. Yes, we are truly living in bizarro world.

  14. Observer, I’ll take the under. If I was Trump, or slightly more realistically advising him, I’d want Kennedy there, to maximize whatever news/media coverage would result. Otherwise, why go? Certainly not to try to convince a few hundreds lp activists.

For this same reason, even a debate may not be out of the question. Plans are probably in flux, which would explain delayed announcement.

  15. @Answer man
That’s what I mean: How did a marginal group of actual libertarians like the Mises Caucus, unexpectedly manage to dominate the fake “libertarians” with a super-majority of delegates?

The LP hasn’t been even slightly libertarian since they ran Ron Paul in 1988; and even then they paired him up with that woke clown Andre Marrou.
While the Mises Caucus only started in 2017, and was never particularly strong (numerically, that is) until last convention.
Yet suddenly the LP has someone like McArdle as chair, and are running potential tickets like Rectenwald/Russell.

How on Earth? Did all the fake libertarians miraculously come to their senses overnight? Did most of the delegates fall asleep during the voting?

  16. “There’s multiple runoff rounds in libertarian nominations, as I understand it.”

That is so, but I was referring to the actual, general election.

  17. It doesn’t take a miracle to take over the LP. There are way more actual libertarians who are not party members or, if they’re members, the type to attend conventions. The Mises Caucus made an effort over the course of several years to get their kinds of libertarians to become dues paying party members, attend meetings, learn the rules, attend state conventions, take over state parties, select most of the national delegates, and take over at the national level.

  18. I think a Democrat and a Republican debating in the middle of the Libertarian Conference is a little bit too on the nose. There are candidates for the Libertarians, too, you know. When they pick their candidate, the Libertarian would want to be on that debate stage as well. It’s not fair to them that their conference gets upstaged by Kennedy and Trump.

This is an absolutely insane and ridiculous challenge.

  19. Trump will dominate the libertarians and make them his sex workers and female dogs.

  20. The Libertarians just got more bizarre news.

The Libertarian Party will be hosting one of the most notable pro-liberty, and anti-state firebrands on the scene, when entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy joins the National Convention, Friday May 24th, to debate the winner of the LP Vice Presidential Debate.

So somebody wins the Libertarian VP debate has to then debate Vivek? Add that to Trump and RFK Jr.being there. Just no love for your own candidates.

  21. Kennedy being there is not yet confirmed. He said he’ll go, but no confirmation has been announced. It may have been off the cuff.

I’m wondering if Kristi Noem will be there.

Party separate and distinct from all others?

  22. Kristi Noem is definitely being screwed over too. She is apparently out of the running for the Trump’s vice president slot because she shot a dog that attacked her kids, killed her neighbor’s chickens, and was already given up by another family that couldn’t train her. Biden’s dogs have bitten over a dozen people and people are just cool with that, apparently. I don’t see the problem with her putting down the dog cleanly and quickly as opposed to the pound putting the dog down with gas or injection.

As for the goat, she probably should have tried castration on that one first. Either way, I was raised in suburbia, but even I know that killing out-of-control farm animals is common practice. I may not like how she rushed that situation, but I find ignorance in all its forms as dumb.

  23. That would be great, but it’s not necessary or likely. If they did, they would be on the ballot for president in a low single digit number of states due to fusion laws and lose some states for recurring ballot access as a result.

If the L.P. nominates one of the seven, give or take, milk carton dwarves seeking its nomination, it will have next to zero election impact. They’re headed for their worst ballot access state/ev total since the 1980s, as well as their lowest raw vote aggregate total and percentage since that decade as well. Let’s say one quarter million votes.

In terms of placing, they’ll be behind Trump, Kennedy, Biden, Stein, and likely Terry – 6th, their worst since the 1970s. Their media coverage will be less than any of those as well as Cornell West. The only reason they won’t come in behind him too is the big difference in the number of states they’re on.

Of the 250k or so L.P. Votes, let’s say 10% of them are in the states which would decide the election if it were to be close again. It won’t be, but that’s a separate issue. So 25k. But of those, many won’t vote if they nominate Trump or NOTA, and the rest will be split between different second choices.

Looking at that analysis of likely breakdown of those, the net impact of the LP – ie, where those votes end up if the l.p. doesn’t nominate Trump or NOTA – is about 10% of their vote total. So 10% of 25k – 2.5 k votes in actual marginal impact. Even 2016 and 2020 were not nearly that close.

So, we don’t need to worry about the LP this year. Whether they nominate Trump, nota or one of the 7 dwarves this year will change nothing, even if the election is as close as 2016 or 2020. It won’t be. Ask me why if you read this far and want to know why I think that.

  24. Let’s state the huge hypothetical everyone is thinking of with the practice of inviting authoritarian presidential candidates to the Libertarian National Convention to debate.

Just to let you know, the presidential debates are overseen by the corrupt Commission on Presidential Debates. They will be watching closely because it’s guaranteed that someone from the Trump, Biden, and Kennedy teams tipped them off.

If any of them show up, the CPD could disinvite them from the presidential debates. Hell, there could be no presidential debates at all. Which I would have zero problem with at all, since the debates are trash anyway and have been since third-party and independent candidates were kept from participating after H. Ross Perot was included in the debates.

When the second presidential debate of the 2016 election cycle was in St. Louis, Gary Johnson was averaging 15% in the polls, and the CPD still chose not to invite him, prompting the protests that occurred at Washington University, which included supporters of Jill Stein in solidarity.
