Texas Secretary of State Says Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Petition is Valid

On August 8, the Texas Secretary of State said that the Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. independent petition is valid.  This was Kennedy’s most difficult petition drive.  The state required 113,151 valid signatures.  Kennedy is the first independent presidential candidate to qualify in Texas since 2000, when Pat Buchanan qualified.  However, back in 2000, the requirement was 56,117, slightly less than the 2024 requirement.  The law has not changed, but Texas population has ballooned since 2000.

  1. This letter was sent by the SOS to his Katonah, NY residence. Hopefully his landlord will pick up his mail, or he has mail forwarding to California.

122,513 signatures were determined to be valid. That is 50.0% of 245,000 or 49.4% of 248,000 raw signatures. Pretty barely enough.

Under Texas law, challenges are made to the agency validating the petition. Democrats (or Republicans) can argue that the SOS violated their ministerial duty in validating the signatures.

In 2022, Linda Curtis an independent candidate for the Texas House had her petition challenged by her Republican opponent. The SOS had noted certain items on the petition but decided they were not material. The attorney for the SOS did a superb job of defending their efforts, so when Curtis’s attorney addressed the court he basically only had to say, “Me too, what she said.”

  2. Kennedy is now certified in states containing a majority of electoral votes.

  3. On the other hand, his polls are now a long way from qualifying him for any debates. Oliver and Stein are the other two who qualify through electoral vote ballot access. He should debate those two.

  4. There’s no doubt Trump will win Texas by a huge margin. The few votes he doesn’t get will go to the Democrats. No normal voters care about these psychopaths running, whether it’s Stein, Oliver, West or anyone else. The last TX poll shows Kennedy with 2%.

  5. Go look at any poll aggregator: Real Clear Politics, 538, etc. Kennrdy’s support has dropped nationally and in states just in the last chance. He missed his last chance at relevance when he didn’t drop out and support the election’s sure winner, President Donald J. Trump. Now Trump won’t appoint him anything unless he drops out soon. Otherwise Trump, who knows how to deal with traitors, will have someone dump RFK Jr’s rotting corpse by the skating rink Trump built in Central Park.
