Claudia De la Cruz Receives Official Vote Tallies in 36 States

Last month, Claudia De la Cruz qualified to have her votes officially tallied in 36 states. She was the presidential nominee of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.This is the highest number of states that have tallied votes for the presidential nominee of a Marxist party since 1932, when William Z. Foster of the Communist Party received an official tally in 39 states.

Furthermore, De la Cruz would have three more jurisdictions, except that Maine, North Dakota, and the District of Columbia refuse to tally write-in votes even for presidential candidates who filed a write-in declaration of candidacy. De la Cruz did the paperwork in all three places, but no one will ever know how many people voted for her.

There has been little litigation around whether states must tally write-in votes for candidates who file a declaration of write-in candidacy. The Libertarian Party lost on this issue in 2010, involving the District of Columbia.

The other states in which there will be no tally for De la Cruz are Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, although it is possible Pennsylvania will count her votes. These states either don’t allow write-ins for president, or they don’t have a declaration procedure and they customarily don’t count write-ins even though they permit them. And in Georgia, De la Cruz was removed from the ballot after the deadline for filing for write-in status.

  16. Trump certainly belongs on Mt. Rushmore, at the very least. Maybe after renaming it back to Mt. McKinley, it can become the second Mount Rushmore, with Presidents McKinley, Trump, Reagan, Buchanan, Coolidge, and Andrew Jackson.

  25. Even if Allman’s claim about Jackson is true, so what? Look at who’s on the existing Mount Rushmore. The alleged murder is small potatoes compared to, for example, the horrible crimes against humanity and our Republic and Constitutional order by Abraham Lincoln, or George Washington’s betrayal of his fighting men and the ideals of the American Revolution with his horrible suppression of the Whiskey Rebels.

    Teddy Roosevelt was a warmonger who helped destroy free enterprise and hasten us down the road to serfdom, in addition to him helping elect the only president vying with Lincoln and Biden for the title of worst ever – Woodrow Wilson.

    Jefferson had many great accomplishments, and has been falsely labelled and defamed with widespread lies about miscegenation with negress Sally Hemmings, but his presidency certainly wasn’t one of them. It’s best remembered for the unconstitutional Louisiana Purchase, and otherwise best forgotten. Jefferson himself wasn’t proud of it by any means, and left it off his own list of his best accomplishments.

    Jackson, on the other hand, was an exemplary president. No one alleged he was without sin – only one President could ever make that claim, and that is of course Donald Trump, the second coming of Jesus.

  29. Pittman may well be a lying communist, but so is Allman. A lying communist who calls out another lying communist for lying is not necessarily lying when he calls out the other lying communist. In fact, that’s one of the few times a lying communist is very likely to be telling the truth.

    In this particular case, Pittman’s article cites easily verifiable facts, so it’s not too difficult to determine who lied on each of those particular points.

  34. The verifiable fact is that Jackson shot and killed a man who had already shot him in a duel. The account that Jackson “let” himself be shot first or that the kill shot was “deliberate and cold blooded” may be a biased mischaracterization, or not.

    On the list of things Jackson did in his life, both good and bad, that’s pretty minor, regardless of whether it is true or not. The same is true of the other presidents mentioned above, and pretty much anyone of historical significance.

  39. I don’t know if the NAP ever defined themselves as a Marxist party but its leaders Lenora Fulani and Fred Newman both were, and Fulani got on the ballot in all 50 states and DC in 1988 (and was available as an option in 47 states and DC in 1992).
