Texas Republican Executive Committee to Meet on September 11 to Consider Keeping Certain Republican Legislators Off 2026 Primary Ballot

The Texas State Republican Executive Committee will meet on Saturday, October 11, to decide whether to block certain Republican legislators from running for re-election in the 2026 primary. Last year the party authorized a procedure to bar candidates from the Republican primary if they are disloyal to the party. See this story.

  2. The incumbent parties simply want to ban from the voters candidates they regard as insubordinate. Let the voters choose without prior censorship with the general election ballot. Parties can choose to endorse, but all voters must have unfettered access to candidates and have the final say.

  3. The SREC censured five representatives but declined to attempt to block them from the ballot. The censure permits the party to campaign against them in the primary.
