So I guess they would put parties on the registration form? What about everyone who is already registered, they would have to register again or not be allowed to vote in primaries anymore?
They will go house to house asking every registered voter their party so nobody loses the right to vote in primaries.

I guess nobody knows the answer to my question in the first comment, not even Alabama Republican. Thanks to the first two commenters after me for trying, but those don’t sound like realistic solutions. Everything after that was off topic.
I guess if I have to guess how it would be implemented, all voters will have to learn the hard way that they need to re-register with a party if they want to vote in the primary. The first couple of primaries after it passes will have a lot of voter confusion and people turned away at the polls because they haven’t done their homework. And much lower participation as a result.
Am I wrong? Has any state ever gone directly from not having registration with a party to closed primary? If so, how did they implement it?
They could try a one time amnesty for those who are not newly registered or reregistered since the law passed.
One time only, they get to pick which primary ballot they vote. At that point the state adds their party to their voter registration record automatically without having to fill out a new application form.
Then, if they want to vote in a different primary at some election than they voted at the previous election, they do need to fill out a new registration application form, far enough ahead of the primary that it has time to be processed, or else their only choice is to vote in the same party primary they voted in before or not vote and try again next time.
I don’t know if that would have to be included in the legislation or could be done administratively.
Anyway, what’s the big deal if everyone has to register again if they want to vote in a primary? It would help to clean up the voter rolls, which is badly needed in every state!
