The California Secretary of State sends every registered voter a Vote Guide. Candidates for statewide state office can pay to have a statement in the Guide if they promise not to spend more than $11,767,000 on their campaign. Here is the 2026 Guide for the June 2 primary.
Although California won’t let members of unqualified parties list their party on the primary ballot, they can mention their party inside their own statement in the Voters Guide. Margaret Trowe, the Socialist Workers Party candidate, and Duane Loynes Jr, the American Solidarity Party candidate, do mention their party in their statements. By contrast, the Constitution Party member who is running, Don Grundmann, did not mention his party in his statement.
Most of the front-runners did not put a candidate statement in the book, because they did not want to limit their spending to $11,767,000. Frontrunners who do have statements are Katie Porter (Democrat) and Chad Bianco (Republican).
Sixty-one gubernatorial candidates are on the ballot. Thirty-two of them have candidate statements.
Grundmann has created his own party, “Christian Nationalist.”
