On August 29, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry told Republican U.S. House candidates that he will suspend the May 16 congressional primary so as to facilitate the legislature’s passing a bill drawing new district boundaries. This was not a public announcement, but such an announcement is now expected for May 1.
No minor party or independent candidates for U.S. House qualified this year under the existing requirements, which includes an unconstitutionally early February deadline for minor party and independent candidate petitions. Presumably if new districts are drawn, filing will be re-opened and new candidates can qualify.
As a Trumptard, I’d like to applaud our great leader and living God, Donald Trump for his optimism about the Iran war. “We’ve already won,” he said on March 7. Two days later, he asserted that the war would be over “very soon.” On March 11, he announced, “We’ve won.” On March 20, he said the United States was considering “winding down.” Six days later, he said Iran was “begging to make a deal.” By April 16, the war “should be ending pretty soon.” The next day, he added that peace talks were going so well that “most of the points are already negotiated and agreed to.” And so on and so on.
“The Americans clearly have no strategy,” Chancellor Friedrich Merz of Germany said Monday. Speaking of the United States, he added, “An entire nation is being humiliated.”
The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, helmed by Harmeet Dhillon, just filed a 14-page joint motion to terminate the consent decree with the Springfield, Massachusetts Police Department with a giant gray “DRAFT” watermark plastered diagonally across every single page.
You cannot, as they say, make this up, folks.
Under Dhillon’s leadership, the Civil Rights Division has endured mass defections owing to its chief’s avowed mission to contort the Justice Department’s storied civil rights legacy into ambulance chasers for mediocre white men crying “reverse discrimination.” While the DOJ faces talent shortages across the board — it’s why the once-prestigious Department now recruits off candidates sliding into Twitter DMs — the Civil Rights Division has (along with the Public Integrity Section) uniquely suffered. Roughly 70 percent of the Civil Rights Division’s attorneys quit, were reassigned, or accepted deferred resignation in the first months of the second Trump administration.
