Alabama Legislature Called into Special Session to Redraw U.S. House District Boundaries

On May 1, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey called the legislature into special session to draw new U.S. House district boundaries. It will be interesting to see if the legislature acknowledges the U.S. District Court opinion that says when Alabama shrinks the time period for petitioning for minor parties and independent candidates, it must reduce the petition requirement proportionately. Hall v Bennett, 212 F Supp 3d 1148.

  1. 1/2 OR LESS VOTES X 1/2 RIGGED CRACKED/PACKED GERRYMANDER AREAS = 1/4 OR LESS CONTROL = MINORITY RULE OLIGARCHY

    P.R. = MAJORITY RULE = REAL DEMOCRACY

  2. @White Men Can Trump… Which would be the quickest way to see a third-party spring up…. your “dream” would do nothing but cause the Republican Party to split in half in Alabama (or where ever it happened). There will always be two dominate factions regardless of the situation (barring a full on one-party draconian state). If not the Dems, it will just be another party.

  3. I’m not sure what David Hughes point was. Maybe some of it didn’t make it to the phone version.

    Alabama Republicans wouldn’t split into two congressional parties, given that they would still have to contend with congressional demonRats.
