Three Iowa Libertarian Candidates are Challenged

The Iowa Libertarian Party petitions for Governor, and for two U.S. House candidates, have been challenged. But no one challenged the Libertarian Party’s Senate petition. See this story.

UPDATE: this story provides details about the basis for the challenges. Most of them relate to the candidates’s names, not their petition validity.

  1. Republicans really need to get with the program. The Libertarians are now the antithesis of the Republican Party. The Republicans have become socially conservative and economic social democrats. The Libertarians are socially liberal and economic capitalists. The Libertarians appeal to center right Democrats like Joe Manchin not any Republicans. Throwing them off the ballot will only help the Dems.

  2. Ballot challenges would be harder if candidates had the option of getting on the ballot with filing fees. If the state can collect fees from candidates for ballot positions, talk of “cluttered ballots” would disappear.

  3. People are right: elections ARE “fixed.” But, NOT at the ballot box; most elections are decided before a single vote is cast. The fixing happens in the nomination process.
