On May 2026, as previously reported, John Morgan, a wealthy attorney in Orlando, Florida, announced his plans to create a new party. He also said he would award $100,000 to the individual who suggested the best new party name.

The contest closed on June 14, but the winning entry still has not been announced. Morgan had earlier said the announcement would come on June 17. Here is the website for the contest, giving the rules.

John Morgan Still Hasn’t Announced the Winner of His “Name the Party Contest” — 3 Comments

  1. I just checked the sweepstakes page, and now there is a link to a page of 258 winners, apparently all identical entries. But the winning political party name has not yet been released, even at Morgan and Morgan’s forthepeople.com/blog blog.

I entered “Populist Pot Party” but am not on the list of winners (I was trying to identify what his party might stand for, with brevity and alliteration).

Senate for first time approves a war powers resolution in a rebuke to Trump over Iran conflict

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate for the first time approved a war powers resolution Tuesday seeking to block U.S. military action against Iran, as lawmakers warily watch President Donald Trump’s efforts to resolve a conflict that the administration launched on its own and now needs Congress to fund.

It was the 10th time the Senate has tried to stop the war, and the outcome, on a vote of 50-48, was a stunning turnaround from past efforts.

While the resolution is largely symbolic, and does not fully carry the force of law, it reflects the growing concerns from a number of Republican lawmakers in both the House and Senate over both the war and the deal Trump struck with Iran to end it.

The House approved the resolution earlier this month.
