On July 5, the Spokane Spokesman-Review sponsored a U.S. House debate, and invited all twelve candidates who are running in the Fifth district. The incumbent Republicn, Michael Baumgartner, chose not attend. But ten candidates, all Democrats or independents, did attend. See this story.

    • The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal related to a Texas election security law banning paid ballot harvesting, effectively upholding the law.
    (The Center Square) – The U.S. Supreme Court has again upheld another Texas election law, this time by refusing to hear a case on appeal from the Fifth Circuit.
    Among the major U.S. Supreme Court decisions announced at the end of its term before the July 4 holiday was its decision to deny cert and refuse to hear a case on appeal related to a new Texas election security law that bans paid ballot harvesting.
    The decision came two months after the court for a second and final time ruled in favor of Texas’ redistricting law, effectively ending all challenges to the state’s new congressional maps, The Center Square reported. This was after the high court chastised district court judges in El Paso for their handling of that case and blocked their ruling from going into effect, The Center Square reported.
    It’s the third Supreme Court action in six months in support of Texas election law.

  11. Real Facts, you say you want to see paid ballot & signature harvesting outlawed, but would you also like to see outlawed ridiculously onerous signature number requirements & unrealistically restrictive time frames for collection of said signatures??

  12. Yes. Ideally there would be no signatures at all. Voting would all be in person and on the record by party only. Parties would be formed by who would stand together at the end of the night to be counted in the election hall. The winning party would pick the office holders until the next year’s election.

    I don’t suppose you would honor proxies?

  14. I’d ideally limit voting to those who can serve in front line law enforcement, which would be the elected office and would include judging cases, apprehending suspects, and carrying out sentences on the spot, usually in the form of execution or corporal punishment.
