If that worked, people would already be doing it. Nobody wants to deal with petitioners or petition companies if they didn’t have to. The reason they do is because it’s the only way they get enough signatures to qualify.
Not enough people care about politics enough to sign nomination petitions , initiatives etc unless there’s someone in their face asking them to sign, often times a bunch of times before they decide to stop and sign .
And not enough people want to go through the hassle of asking enough other people unless it pays and pays well.
