Democratic National Committee Will Accept Ranked Choice Voting in its 2028 Presidential Primaries

On August 15, the Democratic National Committee met and approved rules for its 2028 presidential primaries and caucuses.  The DNC will accept the use of ranked choice voting.  The Rules Committee last month had decided not to accept RCV, but the full Committee reversed that decision.

  1. Presumably RCV will be used to reallocate votes from candidates who receive less than 15% (the threshold for receiving delegates).

  2. This would be an unusual use of IRV because the goal is a proportional allocation of delegates. I wonder what role IRV actually would play. Maybe the IRV would only apply until all candidates are above the 15% minimum, or maybe IRV would reduce the candidates to two and then allocate delegates between those two.

  3. To fix the flaws on RCV while removing elimination rounds, I’d recommend Condorcet-IRV.

  4. The “communist” thing makes me LOL.

Read a book, dude. Clear you didn’t pay attention in History and Government.

  5. Thankfully they didn’t go through with this. The states are allowed to conduct elections the way they see fit. The federal government has no right to say otherwise. And given some of the comments here, it seems many people do not understand how RCV works, since it benefits every voter, giving them the freedom to select their favorite candidate(s) without the worry that they might take votes away from another candidate in the same party. It can mean that two Republicans end up in the general election just like it could be two Democrats. I think those arguing against RCV either don’t really understand it, or are blindly spewing the propaganda from those in both parties who fear it might benefit candidates who are more progressive. But just because you’re afraid you might lose, is no justification for cheating.

  6. Robin is obviously a communist retard. RCV gave us a communist rep in Alaska a few years ago, when there is no reason for that to occur. It gave us an Islamist communist in New York City. If you actually look at election results, RCV props up Democrats (communists), meaning it’s a rigged system. It needs to be banned nationwide.
