In a New Ruling, a State Judge Denies Ballot Access for the Libertarian Party of Iowa Governor Ticket and Third District US House Candidate

The judge ruled on Thursday, August 27, 2026 that proper procedures were not followed by the Libertarian Party of Iowa in replacing the previous Lt. Governor candidate and Third District Congressional candidate.

Here is the story from the Iowa Capital Dispatch. Thanks to Independent Political Report for the heads up.

I just spoke with LPIA Chair Stephanie Berlin. She says that a decision to appeal this latest decision will be made by the adversely affected candidates. “They have our full and utter support,” she said. Berlin continued, “This decision has disenfranchised about 11,000 Iowa voters who signed petitions to place our Gubernatorial ticket and Third Congressional District candidate on the ballot.”

Both the Governor’s race and the Third Congressional District race are leaning Democratic at this time.
