Two-Thirds of Alabama Legislative Races Have No Democratic-Republican Contest

Alabama elects all its 140 state legislators this year, for 4-year terms (35 State Senators, 105 State Representatives). Out of those 140 races, 93 give voters no choice between a Republican and a Democrat.

There are no minor party candidates on the ballot in any district. There are two independents running for State Senate, and four for State House.

Here is the candidate list.

There are no Democrats in 14 of the State Senate districts and 53 of the State House districts. There are no Republicans in six of the State Senate districts and 20 State House districts.
