At the October 10, 2026 registration tally, North Carolina has more registered Democrats than registered Republicans. North Carolina had always had more registered Democrats than registered Republicans until the January 10, 2026 tally, when Republicans outnumbered Democrats for the first time.
Counterbalancing that, Louisiana now has more registered Republicans than registered Democrats, effective with the July 1, 2026 tally. Before that tally, Louisiana had always had more registered Democrats than registered Republicans.
Most states in the south don’t have registration by party, and have open primaries. Among the states that seceded from the union in the 1860’s, the only other state with partisan registration is Florida, which has had more registered Republicans than registered Democrats for many years. Also, Arkansas does allow voters to choose a party on voter registration forms, but the choice has no practical consequences whatsoever, and the vast majority of Arkansas voters have no registration into a party. For those few voters that do choose, Republicans outnumber Democrats.
How do you regain something for the first time if you never had it before? Wouldn’t that be gain, not regain?
I fixed it. Thank you.
Some States and portions of some other states were confederate territories (not States) during the war. Several other States had competing organizations claiming to be the state government and or controlling portions of states during different times during the war and aren’t included in lists of seceding states because winning sides generally control the narrative afterwards.
Too many Yankees and foreigners have moved to North Carolina, obviously.
Given all of the population replacement, more than a century and a half of Yankee carpetbegging, the absolutely insane idiocy of letting negroes, women, 18-20 year olds, drifters, vagrants, paupers, transients, and government aid recipients vote, the non stop indoctrination and brainwashing in the schools, colleges, “news,” “entertainment,” “history,” etc, …
It’s a wonder demon rats aren’t always gaining in every state.
Congratulations to Louisiana.
It’s a shame when populations of states and districts, folks moving around, and the leniency of voting criteria get to the point where any such thing as voter registration would even be needed.
In a sane society, the voters of a nation state might number 10-1000, a hundred on average, and be well known to each other and each other’s families, with long term residency and ties – mostly in non-governmental pursuits – over multiple generations.
The nation’s they would govern would have stable population and stable, uncomplicated laws, with a population about a thousand times that of the number of voters.
Hopefully we will move well towards such a sane society well before this century ends.
