It appears likely that turnout next month will be unusually high for a midterm election. Unfortunately, the more votes are cast in some states, the higher the petition requirements will be in 2028. These are the twenty states for which that is true for some statewide minor party and independent petition requirements: Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
