Pa’ele Kiakoma, the Green Party nominee for State House, Hawaii 14th district, has been elected. He was in a 3-way race. The results: Green 2,991; Democratic 2,884; Republican 1,236.
This is the first time the Green Party has won a legislative seat since 2012, when Fred Smith was elected to an Arkansas legislative seat. It is also the first time any party other than the Democratic or Republican Parties has been elected to the Hawaii legislature. And that covers both the state legislature and the territorial legislature.
The 14th district is on Maui. The incumbent, Elle Cochran, had been elected in 2022 and 2024 as a Democrat, but she had switched to the Republican Party in early 2026 and had become the Republican nominee.
