Missouri’s Secretary of State has released new voter registration data. For the first time, there are more registered Democrats than registered Republicans. However, Missouri has only asked about party affiliation starting in 2023, so the history doesn’t go back very far.

On November 2 the numbers were: Democratic 147,847; Republican 139,869; Libertarian 5,756; no party chosen 3,707,279.

The tally in June 2026 was: Republican 126,145; Democratic 119,630; Libertarian 4,903; no party chosen 3,683,147.

Party registration in Missouri has no practical effect. No matter how an individual registers, every registered voter is free to choose any party’s primary ballot.
