The Kansas Reform Party is ballot-qualified. At its recent state convention, the sentiment was strong for nominating Chuck Baldwin for president. Some kinks remain to be worked out, however. The Kansas Secretary of State seems to feel that a state ballot-qualified party cannot nominate the presidential candidate of another nationally-organized political party (even though that nationally-organized party is not on the ballot in Kansas). Clarification is being sought. Chuck Baldwin, of course, is the Constitution Party’s presidential candidate; he was nominated at the national convention in April 2008.
In 1980, Kansas let the American Party of Kansas nominate a presidential candidate who was different than the presidential candidate chosen by the national convention of the American Party. The national convention had chosen Percy Greaves for president, but the American Party of Kansas (which was ballot-qualified) instead ran Frank W. Shelton for president.
Also, in 1968, Kansas let the ballot-qualified Conservative Party nominate George Wallace for president. Kansas is the only state in which Wallace accepted the nomination of a previously qualified state party. In all the other 49 states, he declined such nominations and either ran as an independent or set up his own new party, which was called American Independent in some states, American in some states, and the George Wallace Party in some states, and the Courage Party in New York.
So, how does this effect the possibilities for the Reform Party Convention and Florida?
Speaking of that, what in the world are the possibilities for the Reform nomination? Are they in the ballot in any other places except Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi?
As for Kansas. If I recall correctly, the American Party of Kansas tried nominating Mel Thomson and Ronald Reagan before going to Shelton. Someone in the Greaves wing of the party tried to get him nominated too.
Nothing as unusual as the Ronald Reagan/Jerry Brown ticket attempted by a New Mexico party in 1976.
Well I guess there should be no suprise that Nader will not be taking any Reform Party nominations this year. However, how will he get on the ticket in Flordia; are there other minor parties in Florida he could attempt to be nominated by?
The National Party/Convention thing is going to lead to legal action if Nader just gets some friends to form a new party in Florida.
But the odds of a lawsuit regarding Nader and Florida are very good, even if he should be irrelevant in the overall result there.
Mr. Anon’s comment refers to the New Mexico American Independent Party. It was ballot-qualified and refused to place the choice of the 1976 national convention (Lester Maddox) on the ballot. Instead, as Mr. Anon says, it tried to nominate Ronald Reagan. But Reagan refused the nomination, so the party ran no one for president in New Mexico.
The Reform Party is ballot-qualified in Mississippi, Louisiana, Kansas and Florida. It is not ballot-qualified in Colorado.
Nader is angling for the Ecology Party line in FL.
So who, if anyone, is going to get the national Reform Party line or is the Perot Party dead?
Aw yes, Eidness’s showing with the Reform Party made it seem like Reform might have more access than expected (I think Nader was on the CO ballot with the Reform Party too).

Eidness didn’t run for a statewide office, so his very large vote didn’t help the Reform Party remain on the ballot. The party needed either 1% of the vote in a statewide race, or else it needed 1,000 registrants.
Yeah, I don’t know how easy the access was for Congressional races.
The sad thing about the current state of the Reform Party is that Imperato could win their nomination if he wanted it. (Or Imperato would beat Keyes). Granted, it would be a bit awkward for Imperato to keep running after endorsing Barr.
Let me first start and say I am registered to the Reform Party, from New Jersey, and plan on attending the National Convention.
I am a bit disapointed that Kansas has decided to jump up in front of everything and attempt to give their ballot line to Chuck Baldwin…. even worse I am a bit disappointed that it’s Chuck Baldwin someone who I don’t think helps the party in anyway.
Kansas just held their state convention last weekend and to me it seems like they would be at the national convention. There are some other states where the Reform Party doesn’t have ballot lines, but has enough people/references to get on the ballot and a perfect example of that is Rhode Island.

To say the least! If Nader doesn’t establish the Ecology Party in another state, he’s staring at 104,334 signatures by July 15 to qualify as an independent.
Could Nader feasibly establish his independent parties in New Mexico and Hawaii as being Ecology Parties? Doubtful I know but if he has supporters within the Ecology Party in Florida then perhaps their is a possibility?

I thought the Kansas Reform Party disaffiliated itself a couple of tears ago or so and was thinking at that time of joining the CP.
That’s a tough question on who would help the Reform Party. A really tough one, because that person would only be on about 10-20 ballots without further help. I would really have loved to help out Nader, but we don’t see that happening according to Richard and various reports.
I would not mind, and this might sound crazy, to co-endorse Charles Jay. I just don’t see Baldwin getting much more then 200k votes. I rather get a out there and try something new or a bit different in Charles Jay. To be honest, I really don’t know.
If Gravel decided not to give up politics I would have personally asked him, but I don’t see that either. Maybe Jesse Johnson out of the Green Party?

Probably not. He’s pledged to support the Green Party nominee, and he might get the VP nod if McKinney wins the nomination.
Why is Ralph Nader not interested in the Reform Party? If he does not want the nomination(s), then I think that Jesse Ventura would help the most – if he could be persuaded to run. Since we still have the electoral college, it seems to me that it is quite appropriate to be on the ballot in only a few states!
Yeah, I am wondering if the Reform Party is not interested in him rather than the other way around. Nader lost one of his key supporters in Lenora Fulani who used to be active in the Reform Party and NY Independence Party.

The Reform Party does indeed still exist and does function. Details will be released at a later time about RP’s full activities for this cycle.
There will be a national convention of the Reform Party this year. It will take place in mid-July in Dallas, TX. This convention will produce a nominee for President.

Daniel Imperato couldn’t get the time of day from our delegations.
Jesse Ventura cut his ties with RP back in late 1999. He hasn’t looked back. When he left, he took the RP-affiliated state party of which he was a member with him. RP does not expect his return.
Nader’s people have expressed some interest in RP’s support. Whether or not they’ll actually seek RP-National’s nomination is still an open question at this moment.
RP-Kansas is still formally affiliated with RP’s National Convention.

In regards to Mr. Foster,
Any references to Nader and lawsuits in Florida involve ballot access and the process used to get Nader access in that state. Barring a Nader nomination by the Reform party (noted as unlikely), such lawsuits would not involve the Reform Party.
So, who are the strong contenders going into the Reform Party convention in Dallas (is it in Dallas? or somewhere else?)

Everyone seems to be saying that Nader is unlikely to seek the nomination of the Reform Party yet you seem to indicate otherwise. Who within Nader’s campaign is approaching the Reform Party; staff members or simply supporters withing Florida?
Is Chuck Baldwin indeed the forerunner or is Kansas simply acting independently of the National Reform Party or what remains of it?
In addition I understand the Reform Party has splintered so: who has the ability to nominate a candidate for President and what ballot lines can they gather? Do the various state parties have the ability to give nominate a candidate seperate from the national organization?

The only current and legitimate litigation involving the Reform Party USA is currently in the 193rd Judicial District of Texas, which by the way continues to recodnize myself as the legitimate Chairman of the Party until new Officers are elected at the Court Ordered Convention in July.
Currently the Party is under Injunction and a Court Ordered Receiver, so who the Chairman is is not important as when the Court appointed a Receiver, the Receiver assumed oversight of the Party.

The Public is cautioned however that representatives of the Independence Party of America may make representations that they are the leaders of their national Party AND the Reform Party too, this of course is silly and not consistent with law, the Orders of the Court and any degree of intellectual honesty and the most common person knows that no one can be Chair of two National Parties.
Hope this clears up any misunderstandings.

Ultimately, I get the sense that the remains of the Reform party will become parts of the Independence Party.
But if the IPA doesn’t do much with or without Reform, it wouldn’t stun me. Something about the alliance of IPMN, IPNY, and VIG* doesn’t strike me as a stable alliance

Anon, here is what I can think of to add to that list.
I would not mind cross endorsing someone like McKinney or possibly even someone out of the Boston Tea Party.
I think for the Reform Party it goes down to two things.
1) Do you nominate someone who can get some national press on occasion(McKinney?) and hope that they become some infamous “spoiler”, but at the end of the day doesn’t really help grow the party into different states.
2) Do you nominate someone inside the party to run. This could help build some local grassroots efforts for the party and start up some states where the party is barely surviving or has nothing at all. While you won’t get any big numbers for that, in the best scenerio you could add 7-10 new state connections.
That is a difficult battle and decision to make. By the way, I talked to Foster today and he said they were on the ballot in Colorado, but lost it in ’06. They’ve run some strong candidates there though.
Also, in ’08 I’ve seen/read that Reform Party groups have run or are running candidates in Florida, Arizona, and Washington. I believe Arizona is for state legislature, Florida for something local but they have two people in office there, and Washington for Gov.
Rhode Island also it seems is endorsing someone who is running as an independent.
It seems to me that what happened to the Natural Law Party in 2004 is now happening to the Reform Party in 2008 – minus a guru telling them to call it quits. Sad but true.
My advice to all Reform Party members in California: Change your registration to the Peace and Freedom Party – right now! We have ballot status!

Regarding Nader and the RP Nomination:
I’ve had a three conversations with someone by phone over 5 months’ time who is part of Nader’s inner circle. I will not identify that person by name.
Even though I’ve stepped back from official duties as of January due to my wife’s severe illness, it seems that I still have a job, and fielding pitches from candidates has been part of it. I’ve kept Nader’s folks at arms’ length on purpose. That was the only proper position to take. Mainly, I’ve answered their questions fully and politely, and I make it a point to be neutral as far as encouraging Mr. Nader’s candidacy is concerned. The ball is still in their court. The RP nomination isn’t up to me, nor is it there for the taking by Nader. There will be competition for the RP nomination. That’s all I can say.
The main thing to remember about Nader is this: He doesn’t like parties and doesn’t understand them. Neither do some of his people.

RP-Kansas is run by Buchanan loyalists who stuck around. They walked out of the Denver Convention when the Buchanan pro-life platform plank was struck down, and haven’t had a lot to say to the rest of RP since then. Their preferences for Mr. Baldwin are only the sentiments of RPKS. The RP nominee will be selected by the Convention.

The member-states of RP still with ballot qualification, and those states whose loyalties are with the ballot-qualified states, make up the legitimate RP.
The splinters are made up of individuals (about a dozen total, nationwide) whose only talent and industry is that of infighting. They have no influence over any ballot line in any state, except perhaps Yuma County, AZ.
There are three splinters, and the noise they make vastly overshadows their actual importance. The legitimate RP sued elements of one splinter (Dallas 193rd District Court), which boycotted the 2005 convention, and won injunction against them. That injunction forbids the splinter from holding forth as the “real” RP. Rodney Martin was with that splinter. The coming court-ordered and supervised convention will disolve the division issues. Rodney Martin’s comments are concurrent with this and correct except for his self-characterization as being recognized by the court as a National officer.
Court proceedings are a tricky business. In order to prevail, the legitimate RP had to effectively sue a false mirror image of itself to sort this all out. Again; the legitimate RP has prevailed by injunction. Martin’s presence in the defendant group now enjoined is coincidental to the fact that the injunction de-legitimized the gathering of splinters which “elected” him. Therefore, he is not recognized in the way he has claimed.

Now; any of you who think for an instant that IP-NY/IPA is somehow going to gain influence over RP in the future are very wrong. Claims of such have no substance whatever.

Correction to Mr. Foster– The Texas Court Orders that he referes to were granted on Motions argued in support by me. I was at the Hearing, Mr. Foster was not. I concurred and argued in support of the present July Convention. Mr. Foster’s people, who lost a Federal Jury Judgement last Summer had no problem withme signing Court Orders in Texas as the RPUSA Chairman.
Bottom line, there will be a July RPUSA Convention to reunify the Party. Some outsiders tried to buy their way in so as to onstruct this process. It will not stand.

I can’t wait for July to be honest. It seems while there are still some arguments between different people, as you can tell on here, but at the same time they agree we need to step up to the plate and have a convention and allow the SPO’s and the Reform Party memebers decide on how to step foward.
I find it quite lame how people are hacking into the RP website, but at the same time the Party does need a website and one that is updated. At least they can do is create a blog.
Hopefully, Martin and Foster can come together or the various factions and we can get something going.

Although not a “confused” voter, that is precisely what I did do in 2003 – after the Reform Party of California lost its ballot status in the Golden State. I actually followed Ezola Foster and Reed Heustis into this adventure. Although I was not involved in their political alliance, I did become lasting friends with Reed. We do not agree on a lot of the issues but we are both Christians and have mutual respect and friendship.
Of course, I am no longer involved with the American Independent Party and the last that I had heard, Reed was not either.

A couple of facts respectfully submitted to this forum for your thoughtful consideration:
I shall be a candidate for President of the United States of America.
The Reform Party of Nevada has been newly re-established and recognized by the Nevada Secretary of State as a viable Minor Political Party. We have properly filed a Certificate of Existence; the RPNV Constitution and By-laws; our List of Candidates; and we are currently fervently working on achieving ballot access in Nevada.
There are indeed discussions between Mr. Nader and numberous officials of the Reform Party USA.
Despite adding my personal efforts to unite the various factions of the Reform Party USA, and that includes cordial and informative exchanges with Mr. Foster and Mr. Martin, Mr. Heineman and Mr. Lake, and former friendly exchanges with Ms. Kennedy and Mrs. Weill, I, as chairman of the Reform Party of Nevada, recognize Mr. Frank MacKay as the singular chairman of the Reform Party USA. Further, I think that forthcoming publishings of recent court rulings will serve to establish Mr. MacKay’s legitimacy as the chairman of the Reform Party USA.
That said, I strongly urge all American patriots, such as yourselves, to reserve your judgments, nominations, and joining alliances regarding the RPUSA until all of the facts – and candidates – in any of these matters are presented.

I am a Kansas Reform Party candidate for US Congress. I had very little to do with the decision to endorse Chuck Baldwin as the best alternative to Ron Paul, other than go along with the votes of the majority.
Yes, it appears that the Reform Party USA is fractured and splintered but, it seems to me, no more than the rest of the American opposition to the NWO control over our society.
What chance does America have to survive in its identity that many of us veterans took an oath to defend? My bid to promote America’s survival in in the words of my campaign letter as follows:

By His law, He fed over five thousand people from five loaves and two fishes. Fragments that remained from this feast filled twelve baskets. By His law, comes our resurrection and judgment. Jesus said, believe, repent, forgive, love your enemies, pray for them, follow me.
The word of God is the law and as His word is spoken, so goes the law. The laws of science throughout our universe exist only by the will of God. The fact that man is free to explore and apply these laws for either right or wrong is a miracle.
Stand up for America where the rights and beliefs of all are protected under our Constitution’s law.
