U.S. Senate National Totals for 2018 Shows Huge Gap Between Democrats and Republicans

In the 33 regularly-scheduled U.S. Senate elections held last month, the total for all Democrats was 50,770,269; for Republicans, 32,803,554.

These totals do not include votes cast for minor parties that cross-endorsed a major party nominee.  Nor do they include the votes for independent U.S. Senators Bernie Sanders and Angus King, even though some sources tend to lump their vote totals into the Democratic column, since those two Senators support the Democratic Party when the Senate elects its leadership.

The main reason the Democratic margin is so huge is that in California, no one was permitted to vote for anyone for U.S. Senate except a Democrat.  So the Democrats piled up 11,113,364 votes for U.S. Senate in California, with zero votes for anyone else.

U.S. Senate National Totals for 2018 Shows Huge Gap Between Democrats and Republicans — 33 Comments

  1. 2 USA Senators per State = DARK AGE structure.

Result — USA Senate — one of, if not THE, most ANTI-Democracy legislative bodies in Western Civilization

    — full of blowhard HACKS from below average SMALL pop States.

ROT was much worse before 17th Amdt –

gerrymander HACKS in State legis appointing USA Senator HACKS.

PR and AppV – pending Condorcet.

  2. Interesting that even zero votes had been cast for either Democrat in California the Democrats still had more raw votes, 39-32. Suppose that California had a normal election system and say give 5 million of those to the Republicans, still 45-37 Democrat advantage. Add another million to each from the people who didn’t vote in CA or left the Senate blank due to having only Democrats, and it’s 46-38, about the same margin as the House, yet the Republicans still *gained* seats in the Senate and only lost 40 in the House as opposed to the 100 or so they would have lost without gerrymandering. So, now we get a Republican president and a Republican senate – both way behind in popular votes nationally – effectively control the executive and judicial branches of government and with veto power over anything a slim majority of Democrats in the House passes.

The gerrymandering is also giving Republicans a lead in state legislatures even though they also lost the popular vote there. How long can such a system hold up?

USA gerrymander stats back to 1982.

Need 3 USA stat cycles for USA Senate for ALL 100 HACK Senators.

APR — R word or merely another Fed Convention ???

    — to ignore A-L-L the ANTI-Democracy late DARK AGE stuff in the 1787 USA Const., as amended.

IE – 1777 Arts Confed ignored in top secret 1787 Fed Convention – left to die — via NC and RI.

Middle fascist Elephant States quite happy to separate from RED communist E/W coastal ocean States ???

    — and vice versa ???

Mass migration — exchange homes ???

  4. April, another aspect is, it just happens that the Class I Senate seats (the ones up in 2018) happen to not include many seats in southern states, relative to the other two classes of Senate seats.

  5. California is crumbling. Starting a damn fire to keep their people in check? We need NEW CALIFORNIA to become a recognized state! New Californai would hold about 40% of the US House Seats and that alone would have made the US House race almost a dead heat. Democrats are now being corrupt on National Television & the American people are waking up. Generation X is looking to be the most conservative generation in History. The Democrat Party is dying a slow death and we can only hope for the Republicans to pass a law that would take big money out of politics

  6. Party group stats now very dubious —

should have 1D+1R area stats and all others stats [top 2 primary areas and unopposed D or R).

Major work/chore in collecting USA Congress stats since NO Fed law requiring IMMEDIATE reporting of USA stats to DC in UNIFORM format.

    Area – name – party – votes – Y/N elected

  7. “April, another aspect is, it just happens that the Class I Senate seats (the ones up in 2018) happen to not include many seats in southern states, relative to the other two classes of Senate seats.”

Yes, but that doesn’t account for US House:

    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/democrats-won-house-popular-vote-largest-midterm-margin-watergate-n938996

“Not since the Watergate scandal have Democrats run up such a large margin of victory in midterm House races, NBC News data showed.

With votes continuing to be tallied more than two weeks after Election Day, Democrats hold a lead over Republicans in the House popular vote by more than 8.6 million votes.

That’s the largest total victory in a midterm House election since Democrats defeated Republicans by more than 8.7 million votes in 1974, just months after President Richard Nixon resigned from office in disgrace.”

I don’t have a link handy but I read that with more votes counted afterwards the margin was even bigger, exceeding 1974 in raw votes.

  8. Votes Percent United States Senator- CA

    6,019,422 47.35 Dianne Feinstein*, DEM
5,093,942 40.07 Kevin De Leon, DEM
    1,599,178 12.58 NONVOTES
    12,712,542 100.00 TOTAL VOTES

One more minority rule USA Senator HACK.

How many [what percent) of the 435 USA Rep districts NOT having 1 D and 1 R ???

    PR and AppV

  9. Democrats have a voter distribution problem. They’ll win a few elections 90-10 while Republicans win a lot of elections 55-45. Even without gerrymandering they have that problem.

  10. “Democrats have a voter distribution problem.”

Drawing districts properly can mitigate that. Several districts which include some parts of a city along with some suburbs and countryside, while retaining a Democratic majority but not an overwhelming one, can reflect the national numbers much more closely. Even better would be getting rid of the problem by apportioning seats statewide by party or independent proportionally. That may even give some third parties a shot at a seat or two in the largest states.

“I wonder of Demo Rep understands the difference between a republic and a democracy?”

I wonder if he can understand the difference between his straightjacket and the padding on the wall?

  11. “California is crumbling. The Democrat Party is dying a slow death and we can only hope for the Republicans to pass a law that would take big money out of politics”

I’m assuming this nonsensical word salad made more sense in the original Russian.

  12. I KNOW (not wonder) that some math/political MORONS on this list do NOT know the difference between

[a] a minority rule monarchy/oligarchy and a majority rule Democracy and

    [b] direct and indirect

    — FOUR combinations.

Little wonder that brain dead junk postings are made by such math morons

    — must all be students of the Trump Skoooool of Political Morons.

Damn the Morons, Full Speed Ahead for

    PR and AppV

Nonmorons can look up Damn the Torpedoes, Full Speed Ahead – think Union Navy

  13. “… the difference between a republic and a democracy?”

Birchers and associated types often make this supposed distinction but as far as I can tell it’s not based in logic or history. The origins of the words are very similar with democracy being Greek (people rule) and Republic being Latin (public thing). At that time, democracies in Greece at times turned tyrannical along the lines of mob rule while the Roman Republic turned into a tyrannical military junta before it was formally abandoned in favor of hereditary rule (Empire). But even before that happened it took on the characteristics of what we now call imperialism.

In the centuries since then, and today, Republics include tyrannical military juntas and totalitarian People’s Republics. In fact the only defining characteristic of a Republic is that it is non-hereditary in its formal head of government and head of state positions. North Korea transcends this, being a Republic in theory but an absolute monarchy in practice. There’s nothing about the definition of a Republic, whether we go back to the original Romans or anything today or in between, which mandates constitutional limits on government or any type of classical liberal forms of restraints on government force. On the other hand, monarchies may today have democratic liberal limits on absolutism, for example the UK.

Neither Republics nor Democracies have to have any characteristics of liberalism or constitutionalism or any kinds of restraint on absolutism. Nor do such restraints require a Republic, because they sometimes coexist with non-absolute monarchies in the modern era. “People’s Democracies” also claim to be Republics, e.g. “People’s Democratic Republic of…” so clearly neither a democracy, nor a republic nor both together are a bulwark of any sort against tyranny, contrary to the weird claims of the (J)BSers.

  14. WTF –

    more combinations —

    limited / unlimited

    constitutional / non-constitutional

    Above 4 x 2 x 2 – up to 16 combos

  15. The Democrats are ginning up numbers for their political gerrymandering lawsuits. If Noah Hope(D), Nada Chance(D), and Ted Buss (Buss, Ted) can get 30% of the vote, some other Democrat should go to Congress.

The representatives from ARJymandered districts will claim they visit the countryside in their district every week when they fly back to Washington, “sure wish the kids could see it, but they can’t miss school back in Maryland.”

  16. US House Democratic 60,447,537; Republican 50,751,049

Seems pretty clear cut. All the third parties added together make only a fraction of the difference between those two numbers.

  17. Sooo- even more RED communist USA laws — destroying the nearly DEAD States even more ???

    See France — anti-TAX riots.

  18. Perhaps it has something to do with Republicans who demonize minorities, seek to erect border walls and snuff out the light in the flame of liberty beside the golden door, think cops should allow black lives to not matter, would relegate women and LGBT folks to second class status or worse, mix church and state, are getting the US into trade wars which are about to wreck the economic recovery and plunge the country back into recession, waste more money on military, police, prisons, corporate and agribusiness subsidies than the pittances they cut in the rate of growth of spending in welfare allegedly meant to help poor people, send the wars on drugs and terrorism into hyperdrive, ballon deficits and debt even faster than the Democrats, and in fact expand overall spending even faster than the Democrats regardless of what their lips say.

  19. RED communist Donkey STATIST control freak laws somehow *better* than BLUE fascist Elephant STATIST control freak laws ???

What 4 words do the gangsters have in common ???

See Spain 1931-1939 — setup for WW II.

PR and AppV — with QUICK Separation of regimes.

  20. Yes, actually Democrats are relatively less terrible than Republicans in practice, at least at the national level, regardless of rhetoric, although both are still really, really bad. See http://www.independent.org/store/book.asp?id=111 Recarving Rushmore: Ranking the Presidents on Peace, Prosperity, and Liberty by Ivan Eland for details.

  21. Super-easy to be a JEALOUS EVIL RED Donkey communist with the income and assets of OTHER folks.

Reported first communist and first murder in that olde book ??? — Cain killing Abel – due to unequal property.

How many New Age murders due to unequal property ???

See the pending bankruptcy of the USA regime and many Donkey States

    — due to INSANE debt levels — worse and worse since 1929.

The USA barely survived 2006-2012 Great Depression II.

Great Depression III may be starting due to the INSANE Trump deficits.

  22. From the rotted past –

perhaps 12-15 percent of voters in the muddled middle

    — not enough brains to detect left statists from right statists and their control freak tyrant agendas.

Polisci profs write all sorts of junk papers trying to detect the pro-voters vs anti-voters after each election.

Winner hacks instantly act like each got 100.00 percent of votes in his/her gerrymander area

    — a total *mandate* for total left/right statism.

it shows – many dying/dead cities, domestic oppressions, UN-declared foreign wars, INSANE annual deficits and debt levels, etc., etc.

PR and AppV — perhaps a Muddled Middle Party

  23. WTF —

Wait for attacking RED communist Donkeys Noon, 3 Jan 2019 in the minority rule gerrymander USA H Reps.

Will Trump arrest/shoot them for treason, insurrection, etc. ??? Stay tuned.
