The story quotes the Chief Justice as saying he doubts the attack is related to the December 19, 2023, decision in Anderson v Griswold, the Trump ballot access case.
That case did indelible damage to the reputation of that court, far worse than mere physical vandalism.

The fact that so many government buildings are worth that much, much less capable of withstanding that much damage and remain standing, is a scandal in itself.
After generation upon generation of politicians get used to spending other people’s money to erect temples to coerced funding and coerced living, the problem is difficulty in reversing the trend, a la my thousand pound life, etc.
Apparently, the fire that the perpetrator ignited triggered the sprinkler system, which ran for several hours. Most of the $35,000,000 in damages was caused by extensive flooding in the building.

It was a bad and freaky decision. But, it wasn’t unanimous. A lot was covered in the multiple dissents. Also, I read that the court didn’t even enforce their own decision.
