The Michigan Court of Appeals has ruled that 37 absentee ballots left uncounted during Hamtramck’s contested mayoral election in November should have been tabulated — opening the possibility that the city’s mayor could be unseated after three months in office.
In a 2-1 ruling Friday, the three-judge panel sent the case filed by former Hamtramck City Councilman Muhith Mahmood back to the Wayne County Circuit Court to take another look.
The decision means Mayor Adam Alharbi’s 11-vote margin of victory could be re-examined.
