Nebraska Working People Party Almost Certain to Lose its Qualified Status in November 2028

The Nebraska Working People Party did not poll 5% for any of its statewide nominees this year. It petitioned for the first time this year. Nebraska law lets a new party appear on the ballot for the next two elections, so it will be on the ballot in 2028. However, the only statewide office in Nebraska in 2028 will be President, and it is highly unlikely that this party will poll 5% for President in Nebraska. Nebraska law also lets a party remain on if it has 10,000 registered members, but the party only has 235 registrants. Most observers believe that the Working People Party got on the ballot this year as a creation of Republican Party activists who were motivated to injure the independent candidacy of Dan Osborn for U.S. Senate.
