Indiana Legislature Adjourns After Having Passed Only Two Election Law Bills

The Indiana legislature adjourned on March 9. The 2022 session only passed two election law bills. SB 134 prohibits local election officials from accepting donations from private sources to help administer elections. HB 1116 alters technical details concerning electronic poll books.

For the sixth session in a row, the ballot access improvement bill failed to pass. HB 1185 would have reduced the number of signatures for independent candidates and the nominees of unqualified parties. No statewide independent or minor party petition has succeeded in Indiana since 2000.

Former President Donald Trump Sues Hillary Clinton and Democratic Party for Actions in 2016

On March 24, former President Donald Trump sued Hillary Clinton, the Democratic National Committee, and many other individuals, over actions they took in 2016, concerning the campaign. Trump v Clinton, s.d. of Florida, 2:22cv-14102. Here is the Complaint. It asks for a jury trial.

The case is assigned to U.S. District Court Judge Donald Middlebrooks, a Clinton appointee.

Petition for Rehearing in Georgia Ballot Access Case Has Been Pending for Over a Month

There is still no reaction from the Eleventh Circuit over the petition for rehearing filed in the Georgia ballot access case. The case challenges the requirements for minor party and independent candidates to get on the ballot for U.S. House. Libertarian Party of Georgia v Raffensperger, 21-13199.

Generally, petitions for rehearing are rejected within two weeks after they have been filed.
