Maine Bill to Allow Ranked Choice Voting to be Used for State Office

Maine State Senator David Miramant (D-Knox) has introduced LD 202. It would amend the Maine Constitution to allow ranked choice voting to be used for state office general elections. Currently Maine used RCV for federal office, and primaries for state office. But Maine can’t use RCV for general elections for state office until the state constitution is changed. If the bill passes, then the voters would vote on it.

Delaware Bill to Move Deadline for a New Party to Qualify from August to March

Many Delaware legislators are sponsoring HB 30, which would move the non-presidential primary from September to April. Because the deadline for a new party to qualify is three weeks before the non-presidential primary, the bill would have the effect of requiring a new party to qualify by March of an election year, instead of August.
