On October 21, a New Hampshire state trial court enjoined the 2017 law that increased requirements for voters to prove their residence. League of Women Voters of NH v Gardner, 2226-2017-cv-433. Here is the 24-page opinion.

The 2017 law required voters who were registering before 30 days before an election to bring in documents proving they live at the address they claim to live. It said if voters were registering within 30 days of an election, they had to promise to bring in such documents shortly after the election. The decision outlines the practical problems associated with this idea. This is an ACLU case.

On October 23, SurveyUSA released a poll for the Indiana U.S. Senate race. See the story here. All three ballot-listed candidates were included.

Many other pollsters this year are not including anyone in their polls other than the Democratic and Republican nominees. Thanks to Political Wire for the link to the Indiana poll, which shows the Libertarian nominee at 8%.

On October 24, the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, will hold another hearing in the case over whether the Staten Island Democratic nominees for State Supreme Court should be on the ballot. The Appellate Division already removed them, but will hear argument on whether to let the Democratic Party appeal to the State Court of Appeals. See this story.

Miami Herald In-Depth Story About Florida Gubernatorial Candidates Other than Democrat and Republican

This Miami Herald story describes the candidates who are on the ballot for Governor of Florida, other than the Democratic and Republican nominees. The story puts Darcy Richardson at the top. He is the only minor party nominee running, and is the nominee of the Reform Party. There also three independents on the ballot. As the story makes plain, only two of them have any real campaign activity.

Florida law says the major party nominees are listed first on the ballot, followed by the nominees of other parties, and then followed by independent candidates. Independent candidates have the ballot label “NPA”. The Democratic Party filed a lawsuit earlier this year over the law that says the party that won the last gubernatorial election is listed first. However, polls suggest that the Democratic nominee will win this election, in which case the Democratic Party will probably dismiss the lawsuit.

There are no minor party or independent candidates on the Florida ballot for U.S. Senate.
