Here’s the story from Gothamist. 7,500 valid signatures are needed. Thanks again to politicalwire.com.
I thought I would pass along the latest Election Policy Update from Walter Olson at the Cato Institute.
Here is the story about this overall regrettable development from the Texas Tribune.
A silver lining from these sorts of maneuvers may be a move toward the Fair Representation Act.
And, another tip of my chapeau to politicalwire.com.
Here is the story from The Pontiac Times.
Technically, that appears to be true, as here is a statement in support of RCV from cpusa.org. But, many non-communist, even freedom loving, organizations support it, as well, because Rep. Murdock is clearly incorrect in his assertion that “[RCV] is not non-partisan.”
That seems to be a general theme in the opposition to RCV, as seen at this website. RCV opponents appear to be coming more vocal now that the RankMIVote RCV Constitutional Amendment initiative is circulating in Michigan.
Here is the story from Fox News.
The sub-headline is amazing. Only 70% of voters think the US political system is “rigged against third parties”? Where have the other 30% been?
However, if one scrolls down the article, one will see that 61% think third parties are “desparately needed,” but also that 59% agree that third-party candidates are “mostly spoilers who distract from the important choice between the two major parties.”
Below that, there is one datum that I find interesting and heartening. 54% of respondents disagree with the statement “Third-party candidates tend to be less qualified than major party candidates.”
Overall, the results of this poll indicate to me a fair degree of confused thoughts about minor parties among the US public.
And, thanks to politicalwire.com for the heads up on this!
