Rhode Island Secretary of State Says He Supports Easing Definition of a Qualified Political Party

Gregg Amore, the Rhode Island Secretary of State, sppke to a meeting of the Libertarian National Committee on December 7. The meeting was in Providence, Rhode Island. Amore, who is a former state legislator, voiced support for a proposed bill to ease the definition of a qualified party. The current vote test is 5%, but the median vote test of the 50 states is 2%.

No third party has met the Rhode Island vote test since 2014, when the Moderate Party got 21.4% for Governor. The only offices that count are President and Governor.

Qualifying Closes for Two Special Florida U.S. House Races

The qualifying period has closed for two special U.S. House races in Florida. The election date is April 1.

In the Sixth District, there are three Republicans and three Democrats. The major parties will have a January 28, 2025 primary to choose their nominees. In the general election, there will be an independent candidate, Randall Terry (the Constitution Party’s presidential nominee this year). There will also be a Libertarian, Andrew Parrott. In the First District, there are ten Republicans, one Democrat, and one independent, Stephen Broden. Broden was the Constitution Party’s vice-presidential nominee earlier this year.

Stein Write-in Vote in Illinois is Overwhelmingly from the Cook and DuPage Counties

The write-in vote for Jill Stein, 31,023, is unusually high for a general election presidential candidate. If one examines the vote by county, one can see that 77% of her votes came from Cook and DuPage Counties, even though those two counties accounted for only 45% of the statewide vote.

In DuPage County she got 1.34% of the total presidential vote, and in Cook County she got .85%.

North Carolina State Board of Elections Releases Write-in Tally for Presidential Declared Write-in Candidates

The North Carolina State Board of Elections has finished its vote compilation. See it here. For the declared write-in presidential candidates, Claudia De la Cruz received 526, and Shiva Ayyadurai received 30.

It is difficult to obtain write-in status in North Carolina. A petition of 500 signatures is required. The Party for Socialism and Liberation did not have write-in status in North Carolina for president in 2020. Thanks to Tony Roza for the link.

Colorado Secretary of State Releases Write-in Tally for Declared Presidential Write-in Candidates

For declared presidential write-in votes, Claudia De la Cruz received 905. Peter Sonski received 910. Shiva Ayyadurai received 15.

In 2020, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, and the American Solidarity Party, had been on the Colorado ballot, because ballot access for president in Colorado in 2020 was much easier than it was in 2024. Thanks to Tony Roza for the link.
