Relative to the day after the November 2020 election, the following changes have occurred, for minor parties:
Libertarian: gained Alaska, Iowa, Massachusetts. Lost D.C.
Green: gained North Carolina, Wisconsin, and perhaps Montana. Lost Connecticut, Hawaii, and Maryland.
Constitution: lost Missouri.
The Grassroots-Legalize Cannabis Party lost its qualified status in Minnesota, although the Legal Marijuana Now Party is still qualified, thanks to its showing in 2020.
For forty years, the Federal Election Commission has been publishing books of election returns for all federal office. The FEC has just released its book of 2020 election returns. The title is “Federal Elections 2020”. Like all the FEC’s books of election returns, it has a red cover.
The 2020 book, unlike the earlier books, is not actually bound. The 199 pages are fastened together with a clip. The book is free and can be requested by telephoning the FEC, pushing #2, and asking for the book. 800-424-9530.
The Secretary of the Commonwealth has released new registration data as of October 29, 2022. The data for the unqualified parties is not on the Secretary’s website. The totals for the leading unqualified parties are: Libertarian 17,493; United Independent 16,747; Green 3,991; Socialist 1,590; Working Families 750; Reform 121; Workers 116; Prohibition 20.
The percentages for the qualified parties are: Democratic 29.46%; Republican 8.95%. All others are independent or members of an unqualified party.
In October 2020, the percentages for the two major parties were: Democratic 31.88%; Republican 9.90%; independent and other parties 58.22%.
The Libertarian and Green Parties were qualified parties in 2020, so were listed on the voter registration form. Then between November 2020 and now, they have not been qualified parties. In October 2020 there were 19,097 Libertarians and 3,793 Greens.
The Iowa Secretary of State has released a registration tally as of November 1, 2022. The Libertarian and Green totals are not on the state website, but Libertarians have 12,100 registrants, and Greens have 2,966.
The percentages are: Republican 36.61%; Democratic 31.84%; Libertarian .64%; Green .16%; independent and miscellaneous 30.75%.
Percentages in July 2022 were: Republican 36.87%; Democratic 32.29%; Libertarian .63%; Green .15%; independent and miscellaneous 30.07%.
Frontloading HQ has this article about the Democratic Party’s 2024 calendar of presidential primaries and caucuses. As the article notes, in the previous three presidential elections, the Democratic National Committee had already set out a calendar for what the party desired, on the subject of which states go first in selecting delegates to the national convention. But for 2024, the party hasn’t done that yet.
