The Connecticut Working Families Party recently nominated Ned Lamont for Governor. See this story. Lamont is also the Democratic nominee. this nomination is no surprise, because the Connecticut Working Families Party has never nominated anyone for statewide office who was not also the Democratic nominee.
The same story says the Independent Party of Connecticut will makes its gubernatorial nomination on August 23.
For the second day in a row, the Birmingham News has run a lengthy story about the Libertarian Party. The August 16 article focuses on Alabama’s severe ballot access laws.
The article says the 20% vote test for a party to remain on the ballot is the highest in the nation, and that is correct. But it erroneously says Kentucky has the 2nd highest, with 10%. Actually the Kentucky vote test for qualified minor party status is 2%, although it must be polled for President.
On August 15, the Texas Libertarian Party filed this brief in In re Self, 22-0658. This is the case over whether Libertarian nominees who didn’t pay the filing fee should be on the November 2022 ballot. The issue turns on statutory interpretation, which is quite complicated in Texas election law.
The U.S. Supreme Court will consider whether to hear Cowen v Rafflesperger, 22-101, on its September 28 conference. That is the Georgia Libertarian Party lawsuit on ballot access for minor party and independent candidates for U.S. House.
